!egg_irl is for widely relatable memes about questioning one's gender or being an egg (a trans person in denial) as well as other eggy topics.

If you are looking for a place to discuss something specific to you or especially if you need help or are in crisis, we have communities and resources that can support you linked at the bottom of this sidebar.

General Rules:

  1. No bigotry.

  2. No spam, bots, or vote farming.

Rules on Content:

  1. No reposts.

  2. No personal-life posts, bingo cards, quizzes, selfies, "trans/not trans" lists, picrew, or non-memes.

  3. No visible names or usernames.

  4. Do not post or link to pornography.

Rules on Post Titles and Tags:

  1. Posts must be titled "egg_irl". An emoji or two is OK, but they have to be between "egg" and "irl".

  2. Posts that assume the viewer's gender and/or contain potentially triggering content must be spoilered and tagged at the beginning of the post title. Example content-warning tags that you can copy include the following:

    • [CW: Assumes Viewer is Transmasc]
    • [CW: Assumes Viewer is Transfem]
    • [CW: Assumes Viewer is Nonbinary]
    • [CW: Transphobia]
    • [CW: Violence]
    • [CW: Weapons/Firearms]
    • [CW: Disturbing Imagery]
    • [CW: Fictional Egging]
  3. You may optionally include other tags, such as:

    • [Transmasc Meme]
    • [Transfem Meme]
    • [Nonbinary Meme]
    • [Gender-Nonspecific Meme]

Rules on Post Text:

  1. If possible, include an image description for accessibility.

  2. Add sources for art.

Rules on Comments

  1. If a post is tagged with a specific gender identity, keep the conversation centered on that identity.

  2. You must follow the Egg Prime Directive. You may not push or coerce people into identifying or not identifying a certain way. You must respect them as the gender they claim to identify as. In addition it is extremely in poor taste to make assumptions about other people's identities based on external factors, we understand it cannot be helped but it is best not to as it can affect the way you treat others in noticeable ways. Read more about this decision here.

  3. No Ewwphoria posts. Posts which contain misogyny, misandry, transmisogyny, transmisandry, or enbyphobia for the purpose of expressing euphoria are not allowed here. At best they bring anger to others, and at worst they may trigger people's dysphoria. People who create such posts will have them removed and may be banned at moderator discretion.

Recommendations:

We strongly encourage you to include your pronouns in your account bio so that others know how to refer to you without misgendering you. If you're questioning or unsure of your pronouns, that's totally cool—just say so.

I might be a tad nervous about the prospect of starting hormones.

If you were faking it you'd know because you'd have a concrete reason why you were faking it

A quick way to know if you're 'just faking' is to have them anyway and see how they make you feel a few months in. Maybe won't work for everyone or everymany but it worked great for us.

I am glad they’ve worked so well for you! 😊 And I am hopeful that they’ll work great for me too. I think part of my anxiety is that I’ll start taking them and then not like how they make me feel, because I’d be sad if I don’t get to transition.

[–] Bryllyg@piefed.blahaj.zone 15 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Just know that if you get to a spot where the medicine isn't something you wish to continue for whatever the reason, that doesn't mean you have to stop transitioning and living your authentic self. There are definitely transgender people out there that transition and are medication free and they are just as valid.

I wish you all the best! You are doing great!

Thank you 🥰

And yes, trans people who don’t take hormones are still trans and are completely valid! I’m just really hoping that the hormones do end up working out for me, I really want and am excited about all the changes they would bring

You can still transition even if you don’t take hormones! There’s no rule that all trans people have to be or stay on hormones their entire life. Some people will stay on HRT a while and then stop because they’re satisfied with the changes that happened and don’t want more, or they can’t continue HRT for health reasons, etc.

I totally get why you feel that way so please don't think I'm mocking you, but I had to smile at this peak egg logic <3

I doubt you need it, but I thought of a few rebuttals:

  • You can keep taking it anyway, even if you don't like it
  • If you're dysphoric now, it's hardly going to make you feel worse
  • Better to try it and find out then spend the rest of your life wondering "what if"
  • If it turns out you don't like how you feel on E I will eat my Blåhaj

Oh I didn’t think you were mocking me at all! And I appreciate the encouragement ❤️ for both our sakes, I hope you don’t have to eat your Blahaj! Lol

Just try it, it’s reversible under a year :3

It will be very clear to you because cis people will feel uncomfortable and dysphoric. Plus it’s a good opportunity for self discovery.

[–] DaPorkchop_@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I don't think this is good advice tbh. I tried this myself, after 5 weeks I felt no mental changes (good or bad) and DID get seemingly irreversible boob growth.

[–] dangling_cat@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 1 week ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

There is overwhelmingly evidence that proof breast growth is reversible (to a degree, the fat, not the bud).

Maybe give it some time? It will shrink over time. I wish you best luck :3

Also, there are non-binary HRT that allows you to have all the benefits of estrogen without breast growth (to a degree). It depends on your goal.

if youre worried about faking it, you probably aren't

[–] blackstampede@sh.itjust.works 16 points 1 week ago

I'm not sure there is such a thing as faking it. If you're happier on HRT, then awesome. If you're not, then stop. It's your body, go nuts.

[–] Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 1 week ago

doesn matter. do it! it doesn brake anythin! ur safe! <3

Imposter syndrome is real. You're not faking it. You are who you are. :)

[–] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 week ago

A lot of trans people face imposter syndrome. It’s worse when people don’t support you.
