The fox could be stealing the shoes in order to urinate on them and position them in the woods to mark its territory, she added.

Understandable.

Finally some news that isn't insanely depressing.

This really is a thing, foxes like shoes. I had a fox steal my shoe on a beach in Virginia. It was at night and we were sitting on the beach with our shoes off. A fox cautiously approached, circled a bit, got closet and closer and then grabbed one of my shoes and started running off. I fussed at him and chased him and he dropped it after a short distance. IIRC this beach was known for its relatively tame foxes.

Luckily there's a handy-dandy chant that will keep him away.

What the fuck, this for real? The news is behind a paywall.

It's a real story, also being run by The Independent if you can get past the ads.

Real fox or possibly foxes, people reacted to the warning by deliberately leaving out shoes, so second notice reminding folks it's bad for foxes to spend too much time close to people. Why? No solid info.

Think they can carry rabies.

I meant they aren't sure why the fox (es) is(are) stealing shoes. But I believe you are correct, plus even a clean fox can do a person or pet damage with bites. And they don't want to have to relocate or kill the 🦊

Who doesn't like shoes? Also fox might be starting a shoe store, or most likely use them to hide their young, or food. I don't way it is strange. Stranger is the people willing giving their shoes to the fox.

Plot Twist: there's a ranger who's a sneaky sneakerhead.

I prefer the image of each little kit tucked into a shoe bed for the night

I think they should name the fox "Quentin" instead.
