Honestly, there is no comfortable way to use Joycons. I practically never used them, the first and only accessory I bought was an adaptor for my DualShock. I just won't buy games that don't work with it, just like I did with motion controlled games on the switch.

Most likely, the feature will be heavily used in early games. Just like every other forced gimmick. After about a year, I'd guess, it will be only mandatory for party games, lazy ports and 3/DS emulation - which I think this feature was kinda made for.

The long-awaited sequel to the Wii trilogy

In reference to Metroid Prime. 2/3 of those games were GameCube titles, tyvm

I think they meant wi, wii and wiii.

But the other two did get ported to Wii under the title Metroid Prime Trilogy.

Also with Wiimote support, which was a better experience imo.

Not that surprising, mouse mode looked terribly uncomfortable in every video I've seen of it.

I fully expect this gimmick to go the same way the Switch's infrared sensors went - basically nowhere. And while I assume Nintendo would love to sell us even more peripherals for inflated prices, I just don't see this going anywhere. It's a feature that just does not fit with a handheld/couch console.

So two things. They mention repeatedly that they used the Joycons on a desk. I think that's the first problem with ergonomics. We know that the switch gets played pretty often in couch mode where you don't have a table to lean on as you play. So you'd more likely use them on your thighs which makes a bit more sense ergonomically.

The second thing is there's likely to be a whole cohort of extra peripheral upgrades to improve the ergonomics or the Joycons themselves (just like there were previously).

I have a hunch the reason the Joycons weren't made more ergonomic in general is because this console is still targeting kids with smaller hands despite it's larger footprint in the second iteration.

The market is still flooded with grips and cases to make the original switch/OLED models more ergonomic for longer play times. I doubt this will be any different.

I'd also wager that Nintendo will put out more mouse adjacent peripherals or hori and the like will do so.

I gonna go out on a limb here and say that there will be two camps of games that leverage mouse mode: games that try to leverage all of the joycon gimmicks and will likely feel forced, and games that will be just fine using a standard desktop mouse. Think FPS games etc.

Either way I agree that there will likely be a bunch of third party shells etc to make it more ergonomic.

i'm definitely gonna wait until hori releases a joycon 2 pro set or whatever before getting a switch 2. even just the regular joycons are an ergonomic nightmare, and my hands are fucked up to the point where that makes the difference between whether or not i can play for more than five minutes. and even if they release a better mouse, if it's not a vertical mouse then it's the same issue. you'd think with the huge role computer inout devices play in out daily lives, ergonomics would be a bigger focus by everyone across the board!
