Pie not subreddits.

[–] Skavau@piefed.social 34 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

You know I'm one of the rarer people pushed here because essentially all the communities are taken on Reddit. Every name for every possible community is captured. The Lemmyverse offers way more opportunity for community building.

For all the reasons I’ve heard, that’s the first time I’ve heard this one. Makes sense though.

[–] Skavau@piefed.social 7 points 2 weeks ago

To be clear, it's not my only reason - but it's the largest one.

Yeah, I do like that you can just pick another instance to create your community. Like, yeah, it has disadvantages, too, in that new users may need to sign up to multiple communities, but it makes communities a lot less 'serious'. You don't need to agree with the moderators of every community, because you can choose or create a different one.

I do also like that you can choose to only subscribe to e.g. one out of three communities for an interest of yours, in case you don't want the firehose of all posts ever shared about the interest.

Actually piefed does a lot to mitigate this. Using its interface. If you go to any Community where an article has been crossposted. If you go into the comments there. It shows the comments from all communities on all instances it was cross-posted too.

this seems like such a no-brainer

I'm loving it so far. And the new mod tools look interesting as well.

"Nobody is using it" 🙄🙄🙄

[–] sk1nnym1ke@piefed.social 9 points 2 weeks ago

I admit that i sometimes use Reddit because it has a larger user base. I know I should use PieFed (or Fediverse in general) more.

Ding dong

Hello! My name is Elder Flax! And I would like to tell about the most amazing ~~book~~ Open-Source-self-hosted-federated-activitypub-enabled-reddit-alternative

[–] MedicPigBabySaver@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Fuck Reddit and Fuck Spez.

[–] glowing_hans@sopuli.xyz 1 points 4 days ago

Whats Spez? Anyways I am glad I do not need to care about reddit CEO 😼

[–] pastermil@sh.itjust.works 8 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I'm rather curious on how you're doing your outreach.

[–] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 16 points 2 weeks ago (4 children)

I think the most I have gotten is 50 people signing up at one time. Usually it's 1-4 at a time.

[–] pastermil@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Hell yeah!

What communities do you usually reach out to, and what would you say?

[–] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I have had the most success with r/buycanadian, r/linux and r/redditalternatives.

[–] JayGray91@piefed.social 2 points 2 weeks ago

RedditAlternative is such a weird place though. Most of the time they trip over themselves to use anything else buy the fediverse lol

[–] mesamunefire@piefed.social 6 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

1-4 good people is much better than hundreds of bots/bad actors/ect...

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 7 points 2 weeks ago

Once the people come, the bots will follow.

[–] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 weeks ago

If we can get all the artists and writers here that would be amazing!

[–] Deceptichum@quokk.au 5 points 2 weeks ago

You can feel free to send 50 people our way any time you want.

[–] moseschrute@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

How do you promote it without Reddit banning you? I just assumed they would ban anyone that was poaching users.

[–] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 weeks ago

It's mostly moderators who remove the mentions of alternatives as I have been promoting the threadverse for months.

[–] glowing_hans@sopuli.xyz 1 points 4 days ago

[–] JayGray91@piefed.social 3 points 2 weeks ago
