Try to compress the audio? Or bundle 1080p textures with an AI model that generates the 8k upscaled during loading screens. There is no other way
NVIDIA is working on something like that, no joke, there's a GDC talk.

to which my response is "squish that shit motherfucker, i'm not made of hard drives"
It's always the damn textures. Gamers nowadays can't enjoy a story if they can't inspect the individual fibres on Hieronymous Rex's bedsheets
8k uncompressed textures and then they just turn on balanced DLSS anyway
Please god make this sell like shit. I just want bethesda to die in a fire im so done
It's like every company thinks their game will be the only game on your drive. It wouldn't kill you to do at least a modicum of compression!!!
Being the only game in your drive is a feature for GaaS slop
bet they download the game like 4 times - 1 for each language
2 of the languages are just "American English" and "British English."
Not being limited by physical media has ruined everything, frankly
Nah, I'm putting this squarely on executives being dogshit at actually managing game development for the purpose of appeasing shareholders.
Yeah but back in The Day publishers would push for small file sizes to fit on less physical media.
Then there were things like late 360 games coming with like six disks
going from swapping disks on whichever mass effect to pirating it on pc was cool
they forgot to take out the Starfield assets
Well, supposedly its running the original Oblivion engine to manage the gameplay and such, but piping all the graphical rendering to Unreal 5. So maybe its huge because it has 2 separate game engines? I'm sure running both of those is going to be so performant too.
The Ninja Gaiden II remake was the same setup and runs fine. If anything, it'll run poorly because it's an open world Unreal 5 game
Probably true, I just wanted to dunk on Bethesda some more. Really, blending parts from various engines and frameworks is de rigueur for modern development.
That's possible? You can mix game engines?
all the gameplay logic runs one one thing and all the graphics instructions get interpreted into something the new engine understands
Most game engines are actually composed of several subsystems working together. Commonly you'll have a renderer (translates art and geometry into 3D graphics), a sound system (managing channels, dynamic music cues, sound effects), physics and collision (given positions and velocities of things figure out how those should change), scripting, net code for multiplayer, and then each game will have various specific subsystems.
Like Oblivion has a massive system for managing dialogue: what NPCs say, what responses you have, how stats and items influence that, what audio voice clips are attached to each written line. All of that could still work with basically no changes.
Extremely detailed Alto Wine model for 60GB
Who has the internet speed and bandwidth for these games?
Spending a week unable to use the internet because all of my bandwidth is being used up by Steam is the best part of any new release.
Here I am with openra/openttd and a tethered mobile
It's like those Skyrim wabbajack mod lists.
You probably pay for it, unless you want to manually download 1200 files.
Like 80% of the downloads are stuff like "Ruined book texture - 4K"
756 GB
It's a shadow drop because 99 percent is Ai generated textures and voices. Calling it here
It's 110GB of pre-loaded NSFW mods
Free space is wasted space!
Was thinking Diablo 2 Resurrected would be a good game to keep around in my Deck's back pocket but the game is like 25GB. The original came out a about a quarter of a century ago. These folks don't care about disk usage for some reason which baffles me.
Edit: to clarify I'm aware that Blizzard and Bethesda are different entities. I was talking about slop publishers' attitudes in general.
Why didn't they remaster Morrowind? It's the game that needs remastering the most out of the modern 3 TES games.
Because the newer the game the easier it is for them to asset flip. They could only rerelease Skyrim so many times so I guess Oblivion was the next newest after that.
The free modder project Skyblivion is also dropping soon and Bethsoft decided to step on their toes for whatever reason
I don't know what people would even want out of that that isn't already provided by OpenMW. As far as running at modern resolutions, faster load times, higher FPS, etc. It even runs on phones.
Oblivion is similar enough to Skyrim and Starfield that a remake isn't that far out there. Do people really just want Morrowind in the skin of those games?
They have pretty much nothing in common system or writing wise. I can't see any situation where it isn't just a lesser product.
Morrowind also needs redesign of combat system because misses with zero damage were just so stupid. Remaster would be great time to also address that. Oblivion didn't have this issue anymore.
Morrowind combat would be improved immensely by the addition of a combat log. And wouldnt you know it? There's a mod for that now
~yeah~ ~i~ ~know~ ~it's~ ~only~ ~a~ ~hit~ ~chance~ ~mod~
I don't want to spend 5 days chasing the right mods and installing them just for them to conflict. I just want to play man.
You're in luck, no requirements except OpenMW which is what you should use for Morrowind anyway.
That's the regular size of games with modern features and assets. (And also Starfield lmao)
Unless it's as funny as the original why would anyone want this?
there's a cult of gamers who eat this series up
I guess we'll find out in a couple hours when it's revealed
Day 1 Bethesda bugs are usually pretty funny, so I'm waiting for it to download right now. A friend of mine played Skyrim first time and during the intro cutscene on the wagon where you can't move, he got mobbed by wolves that flipped it over and broke the whole scene. Good stuff.
eh, good for my seed stats from little piggies (target of bds btw, so no purchases )
i wonder tho, i think i achieved 100% invisibility, did all the side chains and then abandoned it, but i do remember the story being absolute drivel (aside from shady guy in a cowl, which was mildly entertaining)
