FREE Tax filing is SOCIALISM!

-People who SUPPORT Trump's Government buying a Stake in Intel!

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 20 points 1 week ago

If you support Free Tax Filing then you must support the Unconstitutional Anti-American Income Tax.

The Founding Fathers made a blood pact to NEVER do an income tax and ONLY raise money via Tariffs, which is the perfect and Godly way to generate tax revenues. Every president who has ever levied a national income tax has FAILED. And Trump isn't going to fail this nation by letting people pay that tax for free.

By abolishing the free filing provision, we are going to come one step closure to guaranteeing nobody (earning more than $500k/year) has to pay it again.

[–] bdonvr@thelemmy.club 10 points 1 week ago

Oh there's still "IRS Free File", which is a different thing where you have to go through a middle man to get it while they try their damndest to "upgrade" you to the paid version. And presumably they got some kind of money from the US gov either way.

Direct File was a sane program that cut them out and let people file their taxes completely directly. The leeches lobbied against it.

Buying a stake in Intel is not socialism. It's state capitalism.

When admitting, even to yourself, that you were wrong/duped feels worse than just dying, lol.

[–] BrokenGlepnir@lemmy.world 27 points 1 week ago

I try not to feel bad when I'm wrong. There is a whole trillion dollar set of apparatuses at work specifically evolved and designed to trick us into falling for it. I don't judge for being wrong, but for refusing to admit it when it's so clear it is sometimes flabbergasting. I've tried to see what they see to be fair to them, but they believe an election was stolen because somebody walked by a mailbox in Philly. I can't understand that level of guillibility if someone is willing to admit they are wrong.

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 16 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I don’t think that’s it. Have you been on Twitter lately? Every decision he makes is followed by skews of pundits explaining why it’s actually a genius move and how what he’s doing is actually awesome, and without a thought the GOP supporters just eat it up. It’s absolutely nuts. I barely even see anybody pissed about the Epstein files anymore. The only people who supported him that don’t anymore seem to be the supernazis who consider him to be a puppet of Israel and “the Jews.” It’s absolutely fucked.

the pundits are paid to do that

Anything and everything to hurt Americans.

Hey guys. If I described to you an entity that did nothing but harm average Americans, would you consider that entity to be an enemy of the United States of America?

[–] CosmicTurtle0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 32 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Yeah, but, hear me out....what if I told you you're now allowed to be openly racist?

And openly transphobic? Would that sweeten the pot?

[–] sausager@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

That depends, can I cosplay as military and send browns to concentration camps too? For more than I currently make as with a Bachelor's degree and over 10 years experience?

My Dad told me during a ride in his truck that he was voting for Trump again because he lowered prices for things in his first term and thought he'd do it again. Every bit of news I have seen of him since is shit that's making Dads financial situation worse.

[–] madcaesar@lemmy.world 30 points 1 week ago (4 children)

Fuck your dad.

No offense.

What prices did he lower? I thought you guys were having a pandemic and that he was riding on Obama's economy.

Sigh. I used Direct File last year and it was great. Back to FreeTaxUSA I guess. The least shitty option I'm aware of.

[–] Not_mikey@lemmy.dbzer0.com 26 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You can still use free fillable forms, you can fill out the raw tax forms yourself online and can submit them online there. Not the best UI, it's literally just the forms, but you cut out the middle man so they don't get more money to lobby congress to keep this dumb system going. It's also free if you make more then $85,000 , which alot of the "free" software isn't.

Freetaxusa is the GOAT for filing. Have all my shit saved on a NAS and it's so easy.

[–] Lumidaub@feddit.org 30 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (4 children)

Fellow non-USians: no they don't have to pay their government for the privilege of being allowed to file their taxes. "For free" here means "without the help of a tax accountant (and online)". I was SO SO SO confused.

Edit: tax adviser? tax agent? some person who knows taxes.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 6 days ago

intuit, and HR BLOCK have been lobbying forever to prevent it, they succeeded.

[–] Asafum@feddit.nl 41 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

It's also not as easy as it is in other countries. It seems like most countries the government knows what you owe and you just verify it. In America the government says "we know already, but you have to tell me what you owe. If you're wrong we're coming after you." So it is a bit more complicated for us and since it's more complicated we use tax prep software or hire tax agents. Some services offer(d) free federal filing and you'd just pay $10-15 for state tax. Now I imagine there's going to be a feeding frenzy for the online services as their prices are going to increase...

Trump will do anything and everything to make sure we have to pay some rich fuck...

[–] Lumidaub@feddit.org 17 points 1 week ago (5 children)

Oh I wasn't dismissing this as a non-issue or anything, it's clearly bullshit and yet another reason for you to burn cars and billionaires. But I remember when I first heard about this, specifically the "(file) for free" was INCREDIBLY confusing because as ridiculous many, many things the US does may seem to me, (what I understood as) the notion of paying your government a fee to process your taxes was juuust a bit too far out.

You CAN still do it on your own though, just not online, yeah?

[–] Asafum@feddit.nl 9 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Yeah you can definitely still do it on your own it's just very complicated for anyone who has more than just a job and no investment, property, etc. like a dude with one job who rents an apartment and has nothing else would more than likely have an easy time doing it, the hardest part for them would probably be the mail since no one does physical mail anymore lol

Edit: shit that just reminds me, I don't even have a printer!

So far, Cashapp is still offering free filing. Feels weird to use it, but it's worked out fine for the past few years. I refuse to go back to TurboTax and their predatory free-until-its-not pricing.

I just click accept on my taxes and then pay or receive whatever says there.

[–] ryedaft@sh.itjust.works 14 points 1 week ago (2 children)

So you can't file your taxes online? That's insane. Muricans need to get rid of this dude asap.

[–] Carmakazi@lemmy.world 16 points 1 week ago

This has been the status quo for many years. Direct file with the government was released within the last few years, which is what Trump is killing.

Historically, you've had to pay someone like Intuit, H&R Block, or a local tax accountant to walk you through filing. Third parties that will all charge you a couple hundred dollars for the privilege, though the big firms will have online filing. You could also file purely by paper and mail, if you're a psycho (confident that you won't make audit-able mistakes).

i haven't invested in intuit out of spite (former tax accountant here, the term you're looking for is tax professional as there are too many worthless certs) but i'm really curious how much krasnov did. now the "easy" way to file in the US is turbotax, which is fine if you know how to answer the (intentionally obtuse) questions, which most people don't. Now it'll cost everyone at least $75 unless they raise their prices, which they will.

[–] aarRJaay@lemmy.world 14 points 1 week ago

I doubt Trump has ever paid tax in his life

[–] teamevil@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Why the fuck are any of us paying for this‽

It's okay guys, because of that bill we saved 0.00005% of federal spending and our tax breaks only increased the deficit by like 2,631.58% resulting in 50 Trillion USD debt by 2032. You're welcome. /s
