Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today/ . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

We've gone past the "stripping the copper" phase of capitalism and are now at the "tearing apart the couch looking for loose change" phase

So that's why he picked Vance

They don't want to be paid back, they want slaves.

The social control angle is the only one that really makes sense at this point.

Don't forget:

gut the safety net programs that were already barely functional

Can’t have my wages garnished when I’m unemployed and have no wages think-about-it

[–] OldSoulHippie@hexbear.net 21 points 4 days ago (1 children)

They have forever. Imagine trying to wait it out somehow and having your student loans restart at 60. They'll just garnish your social security if it's still there.

Just a matter of time till they bring back Debtors Prison.

Except it'll be working for no pay in a Tesla lithium mine.

Pf, that would be slavery and wars were fought over that! We already have a perfectly good system in place that removes all human rights plus they get paid pennies on the dollar. Pure win!

This was a long time coming. I remember Kirsten Gillibrand or someone like that cosponsored a bill in Congress to do this a few years ago.

Americans education needs are serious overhaul from pre-k to university to better serve students, teachers, and America’s suppose “continued prosperity”. this is the exact opposite of overhaul needed. We want a “American century” and salting the Earth in so many ways

Any predictions or thoughts from US comrades on how long usaians will roll over and play nice with all that is happening?

[–] quarrk@hexbear.net 17 points 4 days ago

You’d be surprised how long we will put up with it

The Social Darwinism is Starship Troopers-level deep, just as internalized as it is externalized.

[–] T34_69@hexbear.net 5 points 4 days ago

I'm not sure the limit actually exists tbh

obv it shouldn't be this way but when I signed up I understood that was the deal if I didn't pay so I don't see why it's "unconscionable"

[–] Babs@hexbear.net 20 points 4 days ago

I was also a stupid teenager told that this was my only way to avoid flipping burgers for the rest of my life, so I signed up for student loans.

Then in 2010 Obama overhauled the system to cut out the shitty private industry side of things, but gave no relief to people like me already locked into that system. Made it real fun when Biden teased loan forgiveness and I found out I wouldn't even be eligible.

But I've been paying my loans. I did AmeriCorps so I could afford to do so. I reckon I've paid more than the entire cost of my schooling by now, but that doesn't matter because interest go brrrrrr.

The whole student loan system is unconscionable.

[–] SerLava@hexbear.net 15 points 4 days ago

Because the entire student loan system was a generational scam sold to 17 and 18 year olds and the loans should be entirely forgiven
