Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

Americans are the only people in the world that thought that America was the leaders of the free world

[–] Shezzagrad@lemmy.ml 4 points 6 days ago

Facts, even Europeans citizens were aware America was just the new imperialist throwing it's dong around

[–] Hobbes_Dent@lemmy.world 41 points 6 days ago

Yeah no shit.

Hey is African American portrayed Captain America still in theatres? Lololololol ya fucking Nazis.

[–] NotForYourStereo@lemmy.world 29 points 6 days ago (2 children)

Pssst... Here's a little secret... It never was.

[–] arun@ani.social 15 points 6 days ago

Exactly. It blows my mind just how narcissistic and delusional a country could be. Half the world already hated them before the Tangerine Turd took over. And for good reason.

After we polluted the rest of the world for our trinkets.

I still don't understand how these people are not being held accountable. As a veteran, it makes me feel discraced I even bought into the propaganda.

Granted, this was pre-internet. It was much easier to brainwash people then.

Wouldn't it be easier now with the ease of online manipulation?

Both yes and no. If you fall into an algorithmic rabbit hole, you might never see the truth- they’ll just throw bullshit at you to keep you engaged. This is being abused at an alarming rate to metaphorically zombify people into angry little brownshirts.

On the other hand, we can witness the atrocities in Palestine; we can see the mobs of settlers beating people out of their homes, we can see videos of indiscriminate collective punishment via weapons of mass destruction, and we can see the shitposting IDF soldiers do on social media bragging about the rape and violence they did today. We can watch Trump lie and get fact checked in real time, or witness them try to sanewash the insanity we just witnessed live.

That's always been "free" as in "market".

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 6 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Then why can’t I buy a BYD car in the US? Why can’t a concert venue sell tickets without paying protection money to LiveNation? Why can’t all merchants transparently display and pass through all the fees that Visa, MasterCard etc. charge them? I could go on all day, the USA is not a free market.

I could go on all day, the USA is not a free market.

I should have said "free as in predator".

[–] blaue_Fledermaus@mstdn.io 2 points 6 days ago

In theory the capitalist "free market" was supposed to mean that customers are free to choose, it was supposed to be a better alternative to the monopolies of mercantilism.

Murica rolled over with a whimper!

It's over. Hulk Hogan has ceased to be the world's best chess player

[–] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 9 points 6 days ago

If we tried to be smart instead of "great"... or even good (kind to people)...

[–] Maiq@lemy.lol 6 points 6 days ago

It's not about our decline, it about the russians we helped along the way.

[–] ExtremeDullard@lemmy.sdf.org 6 points 6 days ago

And it's about time too.

[–] 10001110101@lemm.ee 4 points 6 days ago

Article is paywalled. So I'm gonna "keep on rockin' in the free world."

[–] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 5 points 6 days ago

In other news... water is wet
