Representative Eric Swalwell had the photoshopped image walked over to her.

The Trump administration just became so much more Orwellian.

“The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command,” George Orwell wrote in his cautionary tale about totalitarianism, 1984.

On Wednesday, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem took that command a step further, refusing to even acknowledge a doctored photo depicting alleged gang tattoos on Kilmar Abrego Garcia’s knuckles, which the White House has repeatedly used to justify his deportation.

In a heated back-and-forth with Representative Eric Swalwell during a House Homeland Security Committee hearing, Noem repeatedly swerved away from answering direct questions about the photo, which was displayed on a massive poster board behind the California lawmaker.

Magas are desperately trying to avoid the trap. He has tattoos that could symbolize MS13. So if a symbol is undeniable proof, then Hegseth's Nazi symbol tattoos becomes undeniable proof.

But even if he had actual MS13 tattoos, it's still ridiculous. Kids get all sorts of tattoos to look cool. Is Trump going to depart all the white trash girls with Chinese character tattoos?

[–] Absaroka@lemmy.world 34 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Lets also not forget somebody was deported for an "MS-13" tattoo that was in fact an Autism awareness tattoo.

This is why they're pushing back against due process. They want to be able to make up shit and deport who they want.

[–] Tiger666@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 week ago

They want? They are, is more like what you should say.

[–] Auli@lemmy.ca 28 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Could how? People saying this represents that is not reality. How is a skull 3. And experts say you know what MS 13 have tattooed MS 13.

[–] ToastedRavioli@midwest.social 13 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (3 children)

Gang members dont want to give themselves away. So instead of throwing overt and specific signs, you have to look for covert gang signs such as the friendly wave, peace signs, or rock n roll 🤘

[–] Brunbrun6766@lemmy.world 14 points 1 week ago (1 children)

MS-13 does not use covert tattoos, they are VERY open about their membership tattoos because it signifies ownership of that person by the group.

[–] ToastedRavioli@midwest.social 14 points 1 week ago

I thought I was being blatantly sarcastic, but apparently not.

To be quite frank Im not aware of any gangs that dont have like 10 different distinct visual ways to identify themselves. Be it colors, tattoos, signs, etc.

Hiding gang affiliation is a bit of a “removed move” I would think from a gangbanger perspective

[–] RedditIsDeddit@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

this is bullshit tons of gangs have very blatant tattoos to identify themselves as gang members it's part of the culture of gang life and has been forever. MS-13 in particular shows off their exact name in the "ms- 13" symbol and you can Google this and see thousands of pictures of MS-13 members with those exact tattoos all over their faces in the next and everywhere else

Well, I chuckled when I reached the end of your comment. ...and then a bit more at that exchange over not getting it.

Then, woke my dog and spooked a cat with the snort-honk sound or whatever that was I just did, seeing a second one AND downvotes over folks not getting it. Even with you explaining it. Wowza.

I appreciate ya! I need these random smiles amongst the heavy news.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 27 points 1 week ago (1 children)

So if a symbol is undeniable proof, then Hegseth's Nazi symbol tattoos becomes undeniable proof.

Lol no. You seem to think they care about hypocrisy when it's pointed out to them. They do not.

You're wasting your time.

[–] Fenrir@lemmings.world 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Thank you, people always patting themselves on the back after pointing out the hypocrisy or dunking on them on Twitter.

[–] Mog_fanatic@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago (2 children)

This is a strange take. Just because they blatantly skirt (or take a big fat dump on) the law and ignore their own hypocrisy routinely certainly doesn't mean it's useless or stupid to continually point it out.

[–] Jumpingspiderman@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Pointing it out is useless to the MAGAts because one cannot shame people who have no sense of shame.

[–] Fenrir@lemmings.world 1 points 1 week ago

Do tell, what exactly does it accomplish?

[–] mokus@lemmy.blahaj.zone 22 points 1 week ago

Even if he has MS13 tattoos and a real legit MS13 membership card, I don’t care - we [are supposed to] have “freedom of association” here, meaning that membership in an organization alone should not be a crime.

[–] RedditIsDeddit@lemmy.world 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

he does not have MS-13 tattoos this is a false narrative and a bad argument

[–] gamer@lemm.ee 6 points 1 week ago

I think you're giving them too much credit. I doubt they've considered that, or would even care if they did.

The real, sadder, reason is that Trump fell for a doctored photo, and these people are too scared to tell him he's wrong.

[–] j0ester@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Is Trump going to depart all the white trash girls with Chinese character tattoos?

That could be later.

[–] Blue_Morpho@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

Absolutely not, they're white.

[–] the_riviera_kid@lemmy.world 44 points 1 week ago

They know they are wrong, they are getting wrong on purpose. The point is cruelty, so whatever the most despicable, vile, heartless option is the one they choose.

[–] ThePantser@sh.itjust.works 37 points 1 week ago (2 children)

She needs to be treated like the dog she is.

[–] MelodiousFunk@slrpnk.net 6 points 1 week ago

But... but... this one is obviously well-trained.

[–] obvs@lemmy.world 32 points 1 week ago

She's a psychopath. Look at her behavior(and I mean, hell, her own stated treatment of animals).

But hell, just her behavior, it's clear she's a psychopath. She stares at everyone like she's thinking about eating them.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 20 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Why would someone do that to their face?

[–] painfulasterisk1@lemmy.ml 19 points 1 week ago

If you Photoshop some dog ears onto the image she most definitely will look at the picture and break it.

[–] mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 17 points 1 week ago

yeah my dog refuses to look at the place where they shit the rug too.

but at least the fucking dog has the decency of character to look ashamed.

[–] Gregg@lemm.ee 14 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Her performative holier than thou talking over people asking questions is so fucking pathetic. She’s a child up there yelling “nuh uh, fart factory! I’m rubber and you’re glue”. This is an administration of intellectually and emotionally stunted adult children shitting in their hands and smearing it on the walls; People who peaked in high school who have somehow risen to a position where they can now take their failures out on the people they have the privilege to oversee.

[–] RedditIsDeddit@lemmy.world 14 points 1 week ago

Trump's administration is full of clowns and con artists that aren't taking this seriously at all and they're manipulating and lying to you every second of the day.

[–] credo@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Where was his due process?

[–] khannie@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

She literally doesn't give one fuck about due process. Setting the precedent of deliberate avoidance of due process to cement control is her goal.

I saw the video of the interaction and she is an utter ghoul. Just sidestepping the yes / no question again and again (more than ten times I would say) then trying to put blame on the guy asking the question all while refusing to even look at the picture.

[–] Milk_Sheikh@lemm.ee 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

As soon as Winston had dealt with each of the messages, he clipped his speakwritten corrections to the appropriate copy of “The Times’ and pushed them into the pneumatic tube. Then, with a movement which was as nearly as possible unconscious, he crumpled up the original message and any notes that he himself had made, and dropped them into the memory hole to be devoured by the flames...

This process of continuous alteration was applied not only to newspapers, but to books, periodicals, pamphlets, posters, leaflets, films, sound-tracks, cartoons, photographs—to every kind of literature or documentation which might conceivably hold any political or ideological significance.

Which is more disturbing; the fact that it’s increasingly hard to discern Kayfabe from grift? Or that the difference no longer matters?

[–] mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

it's interesting that you bring wrestling into the discussion. imho, that's been the base for trump - fucking morons who care less for skill or athletics, and much more about pomp and pageantry - and now that linda mcmahon is sec of education, she's going to bring the rest of the country down to their level of ignorance. this strain of anti-intellectual 'my opinion is as worthy as your actual education' is going to kill this country, and 'professional wrestling' is the poster child for the entire inane shitshow that is modern conservatism.

perhaps it's time we started asking if everyone going along with the obvious lies inherent to 'professional wrestling' lead a lot of people to idiotic conclusions and fanciful ways of thinking.

edit: typical wrestling fans, pissy downvotes with no discourse. pretty much what I expect from them.

[–] FahrenheitGhost@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

So..... Arrest her ffs!

[–] Lightor@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

At some point there should be consequences for these people just not answering questions.
