To have an existential crisis because of a Lemmy thread title, apparently

[–] blady_blah@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

This is a bit of a weird question to answer because it depends a lot on context.

At its core, the purpose of life is to reproduce and guarantee your bloodline passes on to the next generations. That's kind of the heart of evolution. That's great and all but that just means we're here and we have a lot of time in between all that if we even want to follow that purpose.

Beyond that evolution purpose, I believe that the goal in life is to get as much enjoyment out of life as possible. A lot of that is based on experiences and personal growth. But the reality is that's all a personal choice. You get to make up your own purpose, and that's just one I've made up.

You do you, but life is short and we don't get a second chance.

Lives don't have purpose

[–] quediuspayu@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 3 days ago

What is the purpose of your video?

[–] imetators@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 days ago

I am not looking for a purpose. All I care if I or people close to me are having a good life. It is not always good or perfect. But overall, I am happy at where I am but I also have space to grow to.

[–] yermaw@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 days ago

Try to make the world a better place for my having existed. I'm not doing too well, but I'm trying.

The crappy video attached to this post made me think ads made it to Lemmy.

[–] King@blackneon.net 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Fun fact: did you know that I can't remove the video from the post after it got posted at all?

[–] Klear@quokk.au 3 points 3 days ago

Unfortunate.

[–] 7rokhym@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 days ago

Convert wine into urine.

[–] moondoggie@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

To pass butter.

[–] toomanypancakes@piefed.world 8 points 3 days ago

There isn't one. I'm just here until I die.

[–] whaleross@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

What is the purpose of a snail or a polar bear or a single blade of grass with their life?

That is my purpose.

[–] DeathByBigSad@sh.itjust.works 4 points 3 days ago (4 children)

What is the purpose of a snail or a polar bear or a single blade of grass with their life?

That is my purpose.

So... reproduction? Have offsprings, then die?

💀

[–] whaleross@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

If that is your interpretation then maybe that is your purpose.

If you ask a biologist this will probably be the answer.

[–] embed_me@programming.dev 3 points 3 days ago

You're imposing a purpose on them, not all of them will reproduce

[–] abbadon420@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 days ago

That's the purpose of a species, not of an individual. I'm not sure they actually have i dividual purpose. Sure they want to survive, bit that's more of a goal than a purpose.

[–] bastion@feddit.nl 2 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Survival and reproduction aren't the purpose, they are simply structural. Perhaps, simply as experiences, they could be of the purpose.

Longterm I want my purpose to be to create innovation in research and agricultural robotics without having to work for a capitalistic company with the sole purpose of making my boss more wealthy.

Why the reddit tracking link?

[–] makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Just out of interest, how did you identify that tracking pixel? That's a skill I'd like to learn.

[–] j4k3@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

It is the tiny URL link that has a unique identifier. The normal website links are just the regular website address root for reddit.com. Tiny URL links stand out more to me because I use a DNS whitelist firewall and will never approve any of these forwarding connections.

[–] King@blackneon.net 2 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

...where is the tracking link?

The link is video embed, extracted using focusred for Android.

[–] bastion@feddit.nl 4 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

To grow, experience, and create.

This life, that means exploring the manifold between spiritual and physical reality, and making cool shit happen, as well as reconciling 'paradoxes'. To play with the rules. To explore the connection of love and power. To face fears.

Earlier: similar, but with more fears to face.

Play videogames, make videogames, start a family, fuck a lot, solve problems. I've been mildly successful.

[–] etchinghillside@reddthat.com 4 points 3 days ago

To provide you data.

Converting cheese into gas.

[–] CheesyFingers@piefed.social 2 points 3 days ago

Apparently to be fuckin sad all the time

[–] essell@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

I guess the purpose is to explore that question, for me that's it.

[–] TripDawkins@jlai.lu -2 points 2 days ago

to trust God

I live to die

[–] JayleneSlide@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

The purpose(s) that drive me are:

  • share helpful knowledge and experience where they're welcome
  • sow beauty and light where I can
  • hopefully bring levity, a chuckle, and maybe a way out when things are dark
  • build strong communities wherever I can
  • elevate those around me and hopefully improve their day
  • strive to leave my spheres of influence better than I found them
  • find the positive or at least an opportunity for me to learn
  • enjoy the trip
[–] gnomesaiyan@lemmy.world 0 points 3 days ago

This incarnation? To achieve moksha and never come back. Fingers crossed!

[–] cRazi_man 0 points 3 days ago

It's all meaningless anyway, so my purpose is to appreciate the joy of what is in front of me and enjoy my existence while it lasts.
