Ew.

Glad these are universally fake and gay or this would be a bummer.

I think everyone who has ever played online games knows that phenomenon. I played a whole lot of Team Fortress 2 back in the days. It was pretty chill most of the time, and it's one of those games where i used my mic quite a bit, and so did other people. I met a guy playing tf2 15 years ago and we still talk like 5 times a week and play video games together.

Anyway, whenever there were maybe 2 guys in voice chat for hours, when a woman joined, suddenly everyone had a microphone. And all of the sudden, everyone felt the urge to play support to follow her around. Everyone suddenly became a my little pony expert, or whatever she might be into. And when she left, it was back to crickets. I always found that so damn off putting and weird.

it's not any different irl.

men want to get laid and are hard wired to want to impress women. even if she isn't available they will still try. even when a married woman w/ a guy walks in all the sudden every dude sits up straighter.

sex is a hell of a drug.

Ah, my frame of reference is more MMO, so discords and stuff tend to be at least 30% women if not more. MMO guys can sometimes be creeps but it's never the whole channel, usually there's already a woman in the group when you join.

Although I'm maybe a little biased, the discord I run calls out bullshit real fast, and we've been at it for years, lol. Still, I'm sure there are some really cringe groups out there. That, and there is a type of harassment that's mostly through direct messages. That trend isn't too strong lately, I think, because of how many guys play female characters it's a game of minesweeper most lonely guys aren't willing to play.

True: anons talking online on discord
Straight: anons can't talk normally whenever there's a gal there.

Is there a followup on the raccoon-Taco bell story?

[–] Wander@sh.itjust.works 18 points 3 days ago (1 children)

This is the weirdos don't know about Bros before hoes. People IRL can sense it, know you not a good egg. That's why those people are online.

[–] MBM@lemmings.world 13 points 2 days ago

This isn't even a "bros before hoes" problem, it's being weird around women

[–] jet@hackertalks.com 19 points 3 days ago

They aint your bros....

[–] sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Thats much less 'bros before hoes' than 'boys before toys'.

How immensely embarassing for everyone involved.

I must be one of like 3 people I ever knew who didn't immediately flip into either 'simp being performatively impressive' or 'chad being permofrmatively assertive and demeaning' whenever a girl joined some voice comm platform.

... and I mean back when I was a kid, back when m00t had basically just started 4chan after getting banned from SomethingAwful...

Typical /b/ response

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 14 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

Uh... It's not a myth. You were hanging with bros before the hoe showed up. I think maybe anon just misunderstood what it meant and didn't realize it's literal.

[–] silver@das-eck.haus 8 points 2 days ago

Smh anon doesn't recognize prophecy when he hears it

[–] Fleur_@aussie.zone 10 points 3 days ago

Bros before hoes only applies to Bros who have hoes

[–] UnculturedSwine@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Bros are always before hoes if you're gay

[–] ImgurRefugee114@reddthat.com 35 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Nah that just makes the bros the hoes

Let's make that an haiku,

I saw our brother
Wet and warm under water
As friend I join in

[–] Instigate@aussie.zone 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

It’s bros before hoes?
But I’m homosexual
The bros are the hoes

Who keeps reposting these 4chan fake stories on Lemmy T-T

[–] faultyproboscus@sh.itjust.works 17 points 2 days ago

This is the greentext community, it's literally what we're here for.

Just because someone posted the greentext doesn't mean they think it's true or agree with it. Think of these like watching animals at the zoo.
