Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

They are not carnivorous because they are not using the dust as a source of nutrition/energy. Besides, an animal that eats dead skin (like dust mite perhaps?) would rather be classified as a debrivore, and most meat-eating animals (or at least the ones that eat mammals), from wolves to pigs to crows to various invertebrate debrivorea, would happily eat a dead human or at least a part of them if provided with one, but are yet to start actively hunting us, save for some very rare exceptions.

Cut the girl out of the loop and start talking to your robot instead.

[–] bogusbison@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 17 hours ago

I meet a girl

We talk

I mention that whether we wanted it or not, we've stepped into a war with the Cabal on Mars. So let's get to taking out their command, one by one. Valus Ta'aurc. From what I can gather, he commands the Siege Dancers from an Imperial Land Tank just outside of Rubicon. He's well protected, but with the right team, we can punch through those defenses, take this beast out, and break their grip on Freehold.

She leaves

It's actually fibres from fabric. If they rise up they'd eat our clothing and not our flesh.

Wikipedia says:

Dust in homes is composed of about 20–50% dead skin cells. The rest [...] is composed of small amounts of plant pollen, human hairs, animal fur, textile fibers, paper fibers, minerals from outdoor soil, burnt meteorite particles, and many other materials which may be found in the local environment.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dust

(I would know that there's dead skin cells in there, because I'm allergic to dust mite poop. And dust mites feast on dead skin cells...)

The commonly cited number that 70% or 80% of house dust is human skin is likely not true for most houses, however. According to a 2009 study of house dust in the U.S. Midwest, 60% of the components of the dust came from indoors, and 40% came from dirt and other materials tracked in from outside. That indoor 60% included everything from organic fibers to building materials, not just shed skin.

It's only cannibalism if another human is doing the eating.

I believe the meme says carnivorous, though now I'm just imagining a roomba sweeping up lots of smaller little roombas XD

[–] kerrigan778@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 20 hours ago

A statistically significant amount of it is also extra-terrestrial cosmic dust.

Unsure if Zavala or Dr. Manhattan

[–] Akagigahara@lemmy.world 6 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

That's Zavala. I was half expected a meme about how whether we wanted it or not we stepped into a war with the Cabal on Mars.

Perfection 👌 moon is haunted though

[–] funkless_eck@sh.itjust.works 5 points 22 hours ago
