I guess there are two obvious outcomes of that kind of trauma - believing passionately that it should never happen again, or being willing to do absolutely anything to ensure you and yours never experience it again. Israel has done a lot of work selling itself as option 2, and the only path to option 2. This is also someone who was a toddler when WWII started and born under Nazi rule which probably doesn't help you develop a considered attitude.

Okay but the reason we don't get native ports of major releases for Linux isn't just that there's loads of different distros, there's also not a lot of reasons for the gaming companies to port to Linux, because only like... 4% of domestic OS installs are Linux. This is going to be starting from scratch and going up against windows, so . . . How are they gonna get a big enough foothold that companies think it's worth porting? Are the big gaming companies that release the games that supposedly keep people on windows actually gonna build for this brand new, unknown OS? I doubt they'll bother at launch when there's a 0% install base. And if gaming is their "killer app", how are they going to build an install base without any games? They need an install base to get games and games to get an install base. Major catch-22.

Hell yes. I have a very dear friend who is honestly a total radlib. Looking at the map, the missing countries are mostly western Europe and a big chunk of Asia. So they would likely be pretty similar or maybe even slightly less positive towards China. I still can't imagine it pulling back to favouring the USA, though. And really, between BRI and American warmongering, I'm amazed that even Americans could be surprised by this...
