Just reported a spam comment in !foxnews@lemmy.sdf.org (for foxes the animal, not the TV channel) before I remembered the mod is MIA. Now I'm curious if an admin will see my report or not.

Luckily I haven't really had people post rule-breaking content in my communities. Nobody posting bitcoin spam, being nasty towards other users, or breaking a rule that you cannot just assume exists (I'd assume "do not be mean, do not spam/post on-topic things" to be universal) and would have to actually read the sidebar for (like no posts about humans in bunny suits in !bunnies@lemmy.world). I was wondering if this is most mods' experience on Lemmy.

Okay, in certain cases this has an obvious answer. Former dog lover, one bit me, now I would rather they be happy and healthy far away from me. Direct bad experiences can ruin things for you.

But I'm wondering. I've never been hurt by a spider but I'm still scared of them. Meanwhile, other people absolutely love this type of critter. I like !snakes@lemmy.world. Why do I see them as cute; why am I not afraid? Danger does not really explain it, because both animals have species that can hurt people and that are harmless. There are probably folks who love mosquitoes and don't like cats. Aside from "this animal has personally hurt me or someone I know before," I wonder what determines what causes some animals to fall in some people's "good" bucket and others in their "bad." Why some people like what others do not and vice versa. (Yes, personal preference, but I'm curious as to the reason behind these preferences.)

I can’t come up with a title

I have this trouble too sometimes. I figure just approach it like you would alt text. "a picture of a bunny I took today," "bunny in the evening," "bunny looks left," might be boring but it's accurate, and people are here for the cute animal pictures, not for my clever titling. Thanks for making cool stuff on Lemmy!

I am confused on if you would rather stay on .world or if you would like to move, or if you are ambivalent. (I personally favor moving and getting you installed as mod on the sdf community, but I'm also not the only user of the fox community, hence the thread!)

@Elevator7009@lemmy.zip, @Elevator7009sAlt@ani.social, hi! This is a comment mention.

There's !foxes@lemmy.world and !foxnews@lemmy.sdf.org. The lemmy.world version has a more recently active mod, @mjokfox@pawb.social / @mjokfox@lemmy.world, while the lemmy.sdf.org one @Greyscale@lemmy.sdf.org hasn't been seen in 2 years. There appears to be a lot more recent activity on !foxes@lemmy.world especially thanks to @ickplant@lemmy.world and overall a bit more activity there. However, lemmy.world is the biggest instance and consolidating towards smaller but still active instances tends to be a better move for keeping the Fediverse decentralized and diverse instead of centralized all on one huge instance.

Either way, it would probably help to consolidate so we can have one active fox community instead of people trying to independently contribute to two communities that seem to have no difference in content. Was wondering what people think about which community to consolidate to, if at all, or if there is some difference I haven't yet detected and they should just coexist.

Also, I followed this guide in the sidebar and am wondering why it says to page relevant users in a top-level comment. Do user mentions just not work in a post so it has to be a comment?

EDIT: You know what, I can test that myself since I have alts. @Elevator7009@lemmy.zip, @Elevator7009sAlt@ani.social, hi! An hour after the self-ping, both in post and in comment, neither account received a notification

Asked the mod of the bun alert system, conclusion is that we're two different places and should not consolidate. Ah well, but hey, less mess on my end.

Oof, made a post about consolidating !bunnies@lemmy.world and !rabbits@lemmy.world, and saw this a few days later. Although since both are lemmy.world no big loss, and I did leave an option for people to vote for creating a new community and moving there.

So then I figured I was going to message the mod of !bun_alert_system@lemmy.sdf.org. Awhile ago I said it was good for us to stand on our own, make options, but combining our reach would probably be good if we allow the same content (I think they might be different in that the alert system is just pictures and videos of bunnies in real life, and my community also allows other bunny-related content like media about them, questions about taking care of rabbits, though in practice it is also mostly just pictures and videos of bunnies and any other content like links to video games featuring bunnies usually comes straight from me…). But lemmy.sdf.org is also one of the biggest servers (though smaller than .world), and I saw the discussion below about getting people off the biggest servers too, not just the single biggest one of lemmy.world.

Also, would probably be bad having just put out a poll on consolidating !bunnies and !rabbits, and then doing a second consolidation towards !bun_alert_system.

What is a bunny lover to do? I feel it is easier to consolidate towards existing communities than to get everyone to agree to move to a new one.

I would expect it to reduce the list of communities to just those I moderate, so just to !bunnies@lemmy.world here. Instead it looks just like the Local list of communities for me. It occurred to me I could be very wrong about what Moderator view is supposed to be. How does this work?

I mod !bunnies@lemmy.world. Was originally added with my now-dead @Elevator7009@kbin.run. I cannot login to that account and remove myself because kbin.run died. Now the community appears to have two same-name mods. It is not the biggest deal ever but I would like a way to boot my dead account from the mod team.

In a similar vein to this post. Mistakes happen.

Also, when I was initially looking for the button to edit the sidebar I was actually scared to try out that button because the proximity to "leave mod team" and the fact it's just an image of something getting edited made me think it was related to unmodding myself. Considering I had to get a Lemmy admin to install this obvious alt account because my Mbin main account cannot add mods to, edit the sidebar of, or handle reports from Lemmy communities, I was really hesitant to take the risk of possibly unmodding myself and having to bug the admin to help me out yet again.
