I just occasionally go back to shill for Lemmy. Pretty sure that hurts them more than helps. :D

Is there a transcript?

It's a really really odd story. The article says that the accident was a minor crash, and that her vehicle sustained A$2000 worth of damage.

There's no way getting hit buy a bus going 110Kph doesn't total your vehicle. And if it was just a glancing blow, how do you go into renal failure from what's basically a fender bender? Severe whiplash maybe?

Perhaps it's just my armchair traffic injury analysis that's way off base, but it just seems to me like there's more to this story.

Let me think of a good name for it. Let's see, it hangs and holds a banana. How about we call it the "banana hammock"?

Yeah, searx and no looking back here too. The only downside is it's OotB experience isn't the best, so you should spend a minute configuring it to add more engines than just google. Oh, that and the occasional outages, but they seem to be less common lately.

Yeah, the headline makes it sound like the software was downloading anime girl pics, not just duplicating the ones that were already there. Pretty misleading IMO.

Maybe you and your sister should RTFM together.

It's wild. I've lost relatives to this nonsense and I don't even live in the US.

I'm currently fighting it with some friend's family members that aren't complete lost causes yet, but it seems to take a disproportionate amount of effort to disarm the programming, and then they just go back and their algorithms which are happy to spoon feed them more view confirming nonsense to regurgitate.

Does he?! Oh, what a strange coincidence. 😁

Just as a mild counterexample, I've personally changed my views quite drastically over my time on reddit and now lemmy, and most of it was from individuals just sharing their own perspective.

I held some latent bigotry and misogyny, part of which I picked in my day to day life, and partly from 4ch. I won't say I've eliminated it completely, but I think I've become a better person from my interactions online.

If we're not out here trying to actively learn from and help other people, then what the heck are we doing?

It does seem like something that could be fixed with better automated tooling, but should it be?

For tagging it isn't the post data that needs to be changed, but it's metadata, which seems more reasonable for mods to be able to change. I'm not familiar enough with Lemmy to know if that distinction exists under the hood.

While I agree, the best practice is one you can do regularly. If duo's gamification helps you keep actively studying, then while maybe not the best way, it's better than nothing.

Ideally the best use of duo is minimally, as a springboard to keep you doing other more immersive studying.
