None, it's the web version.

Sorry for late reply, I no longer use this account.

Basically my entire feed is like swiss cheese due to all the articles about Trump and Musk.

Does someone actually enjoy consuming this stuff all day every day? I can't possibly imagine Lemmy ever becoming popular among the normies if this is what they'd need to deal with.

No hating on my mods allowed. Yes, it's duct tape.

Littering is one of those things I struggle the most to understand.

I can somewhat grasp it in extreme cases, like when you’re dealing with something really dirty and there’s nowhere to put it. But I’m talking about casual littering - things like throwing candy wrappers on the ground when you could just as easily put them in your pocket.

I don’t think anyone sees themselves as a bad person. Even when we engage in bad behavior, we usually have some story we tell ourselves to justify it. But I can’t put myself in the mindset of someone who casually throws trash on the ground for someone else to clean up. It’s kind of like walking around and cussing at random people - it just doesn’t make any sense. You have to know that you're the problem.

But it does mean I’m doing something right, as not knowing about things like this is exactly what I aim for. Not knowing what “Hawk Tuah” is means I’ve successfully excluded the kinds of things from my media diet that I intended to avoid. I’m not making any universal moral judgments here - these are my values. You’re free to value different things, but don’t waste your time telling me I’m valuing the wrong ones.

Exactly. There's a limited amount of things I can pay attention over the week. The fact that I don't know about some completely trivial cultural thing means I've paid attention to something else instead. That something else may very well be equally trivial but it also might not.

Please, tell me more about my values.

The fact that I have no idea what "Hawk Tuah" is means I'm doing something right.

This isn't your college or work place break room. If people are saying something you disagree with you can just say it and you won't be fired or ostracized for it. Yeah, people will probably get angry and say mean things to you but those are just words which can be ignored. Offence is taken, not given.

This is mostly for the lurkers who upvote unpopular opinions but don't comment. You can speak up - you're not alone.

Fine by me as long as you keep old.lemmy for the rest of us. The current UI is about as good as it can be. I wouldn't change a thing.

For example, I don’t use TikTok. I never have, and I never will, and I’d advise everyone else to get off the platform too. I genuinely believe it’s objectively harmful to people’s mental health and possibly even a threat to democracy. That said, I also believe people should be free to decide for themselves whether they want to use it or not, which is why I’m against the U.S. government banning it.

Where I live, there’s a strict screening process to become a cop. It requires a three-year education, and you need a college degree just to apply. There are far more applicants than available spots, so even many good candidates don’t make it in. Trust in the police is generally quite high among the population, they’re respected, and every time a firearm is used for example, it’s investigated thoroughly. Officers do face legal consequences when malpractice is discovered.

So, yeah, I’d hang out with a cop and talk to them about the same stuff I’d discuss with anyone else.

That all cops are bastards.

I genuinely believe ACAB, and this news has me conflicted because my new friend seems really cool and super nice.

What you’re experiencing is cognitive dissonance. New information is clashing with your prior beliefs, leaving you with a choice: either update your beliefs or double down and lie to yourself even harder.

Thanks!

You have fun with 4 more years of Trump probably followed with 8 years of J.D. Vance because that's exactly what this gets you.

And the rest voted for a candidate advocating for tax payer funded gender reassignment surgeris for undocumented immigrants in custody sooooooo.

This game leads nowhere.
