Yeah, that's true. Although, not by much. I remember that in 1990's there was still plenty of distrust towards them, as they were seen as nazis. Nobody wanted Germany to become strong. The 1990's began 45 yeqrsnafter WWII had ended, and while the trust had been almost recovered, it was still not intact. I'm not sure if it's even now: Germany is the biggest reason we didn't support Ukraine militarily as much as needed back in spring 2022. They wanted cheap gas and were ready to accept horrors in the name of political realism. It's hard at least for me to not see a connection between that cynicism and what the same cynicism led to in 1920's and 1930's.

Yeah, that's absolutely correct, I agree!

But, it won't return our trust towards USA. That will take decades, no matter what. Dethroning Trump is a good beginning. Or beginning of a beginning. But actual permanent changes would need to take place, amd I don't really see them 8n the horizon.

Oh, thanks for the heads-up! I edited the comment now. And know to be careful with this in the future!

There are legislative bodies that exist precisely for changing such laws. Make an exceptional law that is valid for only this one time use and then hire new judges, some of which are allowed to be among the ones fired.

So, basically one NATO member is saying that it will not honour its commitments if Spain ever gets attacked?

And maybe this means that all official documents will have to be delivered to the Spanish by some other NATO member state?

A suspension that suspenses nothing. Hooray.

That would decrease my trust. It would look like they are doing nothing to learn from their FAFO.

...and that time is about two generations. People reproduce at around age 25, so two generations are about 50 years.

I hope other countries will heed the warning.

Simple: refrain from doing any stupid shit for half a century. Any stupid shit will kick the timer backwards 70% of the elapsed time.

(There really is no other way)

The private owners of the line in question are the government of Denmark and the smaller towns around the city of Copenhagen.

Yeah, I hate it as well how the Finnish railways is organized. By it being a "Ltd." type of organization, it manages to incorporate the worst sides of both private ownership and public ownership in one. Almost any solution would be better than ours.

But it's still not private. Words have meanings and if we misuse them, we lose our ability to protect ourselves for example from actual privatization.

Ah, okay, so this route does not belong to Banedanmark, but to Hovedstadens Lokalbaner.

However, the web site of HL says:

Inden fusionen havde Hovedstadens Udviklingsråd overtaget statens aktier i privatbanerne, således at Hovedstadens Udviklingsråd ejer ca. 45% af aktierne i det nye selskab. Den øvrige aktiekapital ejes af amter og kommuner, som tidligere var aktionærer i de private baner.

^^ This means that all of HL belongs to government and municipalities. It also says that originally the routes had been largely privatized, but they were deprivatized in 2002.

Which you didn't do, though: https://uk.bane.dk/en/About-Banedanmark

The very first sentence there tells it's a governmental body under the Ministry of Transport. Unless Denmark has privatized its Ministry of Transport, it's not privatized.

Melkoisen merkityksellistä, että mielenosoituksia saa näköjään järjestää vaikka ne ärsyttäisivät jotakuta.

Sorry, cannot reasonably report this in any more proper manner in the hurry.

The character & somehow gets garbled here when viewed through Lemmy:

It started getting a bit difficult posting here because my old username, Tuuktuuk, is based on my official name that is slowly fading away, and the temporary username I invented to get started here, Egghead, no longer properly fit me either. So, I just became unable to post or comment anything at all in the Forumverse because the nicknames didn't feel "mine".

But this one really makes me happy. Before I was born, my mother still knew I'm a girl, and named me Linda, which then was changed to another name right after I was born.

So, I took that given name as a base. It has several concurrent etymologies, but one of them is the linden tree. It symbolizes softness and caring, and those have always been adjectives people have used for describing my personality. Linden in my native language, Finnish, is lehmus. But, in many Indo-European languages -us is a masculine suffix.

But then: added an a to feminize it a bit. Made the u longer to include the word "muusa", which is Finnish for muse, the goddess things from Greek mythology. And then Lehmuusa also sounds like a Finnish dialect reference, and it can be understood as meaning either "linden-y" or also "kinda cow-like" (from lehmä = cow), which is kind of a bonkers way to refer to a fine lady, but I have always had a very absurd sense of humour. Happy to be a little bit of a cow! Also, I'm very good in emulating mooing sounds of a cow, so it fits. Plus, there's also "muu", which is how you write "moo" in Finnish.

Also, an earlier nickname I had used for about two decades had been a reference to me being good in quacking like a duck, so the mooing, also an animal sound, connects to my past.

And then, I studied Latvian philology as my main subject for a long time before I changed professions, and the linden tree has importance in the Latvian folklore, as a symbol of feminity. And Latvian language and culture have become important parts of my identity even though I have no Latvian roots.

Then, I also lived in Germany for some years when I grew adult. My German was good enough that people confused me for a native speaker. And Lehm is German for "clay", and I like clay as a material. And it connects to my past in Germany.

And of course, I just really love trees and forests!

This is by far the best nickname I've ever had anywhere. Feels mine! 🌳💚♀️🐮🇫🇮🇬🇷🇩🇪🇱🇻🫖
