I think the other aspect is that we have the statistics now. I would assume that the PS2 had more monthly users than the PS3 for quite a long time maybe even up to the PS4. Same with the Wii and WiiU and going farther back quite possibly the NES than the SNES, SNES than the N64, C64 than the Amiga, etc.

Yeah, but you'll likely never buy it considering how little HBM2 was used in consumer applications. I assume we'll know a price when the other memory makers join in and compete

They are for servers, if you could afford it Micron would already have contacted you.

And 1871 was also an embarassment, and 1830, and 1821 et cetera. Napoleon was a short reprieve from several centuries of humiliating defeats.

How many laptops don't have an SD Card slot?

[–] LorIps@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

video recording/editing (some phones can record 4k at high frame rates) , gaming, general responsiveness. I know that we as tech (and especially linux) people don't really understand that but a lot of people are using their phones for a whole load of things now and especially with things now. Also the argument why you would choose UFS would be higher speeds. The real argument for MicroSD Express is backwards compatibility.

Also also I'm looking forwards to being able to run SBC from a MicroSD Express card so it's at least somewhat faster.

Yeah, but that adapter ist just a PCB, I'd assume a M.2 to USB Adapter is mofe complicated.

If you are a phone manufacturer you can either choose MicroSD cards which are the most common and the cheapest, MicroSD Express Cards which are more expensive but faster and backwards compatible or UFS which nobody has ever heard of.

Why would anybody adopt a newer standard with no backwards compatibility and slower speeds?

[–] LorIps@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago (5 children)

Probably easier to switch out for debugging or to flash a SSD from a PC.

No real alternatives in that form factor.

The US government doesn't (to my knowledge at least) have copyright protections so MIT wouldn't be possible. BSD 0-Clause is just better because e.g. Austria doesn't allow you to cede copyright to the public domain and CC0 directly mentions the public domain in the terms of the license.

MIPS seems to be quite widely supported (about as much as PPC64LE) despite that I'm not able to find anything that uses MIPSLE/MIPS64LE. Are they only supported for QEMU or is there anything that still uses it? Do you know of anything to play around with Linux for MIPSLE/MIPS64LE that isn't emulation?

Pope Francis seemingly put his own spin on telling women to 'smile more,' urging nuns to abandon "vinegar faces," and stop speaking with the devil.

The Pope, 88, emphasized the importance of friendliness and love in embodying the virtues of the Catholic Church as he spoke to a group of Dominican sisters visiting the Vatican Sunday, The Times reported.

"Sometimes in my life, I have met nuns with a vinegar face, and that's not friendly," the Pope remarked. "That's not something that helps to attract people. Vinegar is nasty, and nuns with a vinegar face—let's not even talk about it."

The Pope also urged the nuns to follow Jesus' example of speaking to everyone—except the Devil. "No dialogue with the Devil, understood?" he stressed, warning against allowing jealousy and other human frailties to provide entry points for evil.

Among human frailties, the Pope addressed gossip as a substantial hurdle for women.

"Please, distance yourself from gossip," he urged. "To ask this of a woman is heroic but, come on, let's move forward and no gossip." He called on the sisters to instead be "heralds of affability."
