Your own domain, but you're safer not hosting your own email servers in general. Just wanted to be clear for anyone reading this. If your mail server is down you don't get mail ๐Ÿซ

I ended up using a service that isn't Google for that with my own domain

I do think that even with the "this is woke I'm not listening" crowd it's possible. You need to practice active listening to get in the door though. Tell them what you hear and explain it in your words. Sometimes you hear wrong and sometimes they realize how dumb it sounds when you repeat it again.

Idk it seems totally possible... A lot of work.... But possible. Aside from raising my kids to think correctly and be good people that's the only other way I can benefit society / the people around me. I just listen and challenge, and try to keep my personal feelings out of it initially.

It just really feels like people want everything distilled into a 30s tiktok video and its really hard to see everything go that direction..

This is dumb and clearly biased. Not that I'm on Rowlings side... But still

I think its not pointless. Many people are not intentionally this way, they've just fallen for propaganda.

I was one of those people, but because I had a good friend at a job who didn't judge me and gave me a more informed and alternate viewpoint, it really changed my mind on a lot of things.

There are some people who might honestly be open to having a true discussion, and that's the first step to changing minds I think.

I have had better luck where instead of trying to prove someone wrong, I make them just say their opinion out loud and explain it very clearly for me. Some people realize how shallow their views and knowledge are when you do this for them

I don't doubt it... but there has to be some way to pull people back from the hole they've dug themselves into. Straight up ignoring them seems counterproductive, but you're right... I'm not an expert and im sure people have tried

It just feels sad and frustrating to me as well. This guy obviously seems to have some talent but got sucked into something that overshadows his talent with just plain idiocy on things he doesn't know anything about it seems like...

Really sad times

Edit: just read the article you sent. This was particularly in the case of sending out messaging where people can't have a discussion back with you.

I totally understand and I'm more ranting about this just in general.. My in laws are super Trumpers and just going down the rabbit hole. I totally get that its exhausting to argue or try to push them to think about the shit they are saying, but its the only thing I can think of that MIGHT help

Does being intolerant of intolerance actually work though?

Note: I'm not being tolerant of their views, im challenging them constantly on them in a constructive way (at least to me). It doesn't generally go over well, but it has helped seemingly to treat them with respect and to do active listening and challenge that by making them actually feel like you've heard them.

Even on something like tor browser or tails?

Just for the sake of my own learning, how can you help them?

In my personal experience when I've tried to help them they will take free clothes, food, and money... But if they don't want to get off drugs and actually clean up their act then they won't.

How can you help the ones who won't help themselves? In this case the homeless encampment seemingly hurts business and communities.

I donate time and money to homeless shelters and things but the problem is just getting worse where I live. When these encampments pop up existing residents are less safe, and the sense of community as a whole goes down.

These are not bad people, but addiction is hell on earth it seems. I honestly want to know how I could help more than I do, but most people don't know how to fix it either

You're saying law enforcement can easily fingerprint you? Or am I misreading what you're trying to say?

[โ€“] Lyricism6055@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Absolutely. I am getting help since im just personally not able to keep up the required diet. It's practically impossible in America it feels like. Every restaurant is off the table and little joys in life would be out of reach.

Thankfully I don't need insulin, and after losing weight I've significantly decreased the amount of meds needed to keep my sugars normal, but just wanted to post to show people without diabetes that it's a disease, not something solely caused by just being unhealthy. Being unhealthy just makes the symptoms of the disease worse

Basically now as a type 2 diabetic I cannot eat anything and I'm still at elevated sugars....

Weight loss and a super low carb diet would work.... Maybe.... But if I even fuck it up for a week my sugars will be sky high again
