Maybe next year.

But the top grossing movie for 2023 is an original movie, and that's pretty impressive.

Now, if I could only remember what it's called...

If there was only some way to make any attempts at building an accurate profile of one's online presence via data scraping completely useless by masking one's own presence within the vast quantity of online data of someone else, let's say for example, a famous public figure.

But who would do such a thing?

If you think Ernest Cline's movie is cringy, wait until you read his poetry. Absolutely one of the worst piece of writing I've ever read.

And it only gets worse from there.

If you want a more detailed explanation, USB-C is a small connector that was designed primarily for data transfer, extended power range delivery (240w) was essentially hacked on to the standard. Electricity arcing between the contacts on the connector is the biggest challenge with this hack, since the contacts are small and very close together, which could burn out the circuit board and start fires. For EPR to work safely, there needs to be a lot of extra components on the circuit board/female connector side, which there simply isn't enough space for on an f2m extension cable.

As for why USB-C cables are so short, it's simply a matter of physics, carrying high speed data over larger distances would result in higher losses and requires thicker conductors and more shielding, which is why you don't see USB4 Gen3 cables over 1 meter unless they are optical, and longer "charging cables" are only rated at USB 2.0 speeds, because more often than not they don't even have the USB 3.x data pins on their connector.

Again, I bet it's Ryan Gosling who did this.

If you're wondering how a browser extension got so much money to pay all these YouTubers for sponsorship, well, they're not. They are literally stealing the money they paid the YouTubers right back from them by replacing their affiliate code with their own.

For people looking for replacements, Edge's integratedauto coupon code works well enough. RetailMeNot does the same job and has also been around for a long time.

Dear lemmings:

If this is the Golden Lemmy Awards, then why does the winner recieve a Lemmy Silver?

Curious.

The Fairphone 4, as nominated by @be_gt@lemmy.world!

As promised, you will be receiving 1 Lemmy Silver, and of course, bragging rights.

But, we also have an honorary Golden Lemmy award, which goes to...

Every Android device that is not the Samsung Galaxy S22+, as nominated by @OpenStars@discuss.online!

You get 1 Lemmy Silver (and bragging rights) too!

That's it for this year's Golden Lemmy, folks!

(Nomination thread is here for future references.)

Due to having so many people trying to impersonate me on the internet, I've become somewhat of a expert on verification pictures.

You can still easily tell that this is fake because if you look closely, the details, especially the background clutter, is utterly nonsensical.

  1. The object over her right shoulder (your left), for example, looks like if someone blended a webcam with a TV with a nightstand.
  2. Over her left shoulder (your right), her chair is only on that one side and it blends into the counter in the background.
  3. Is it a table lamp or a wall mounted light?
  4. The doorframe in background behind her head is not even aligned.
  5. Her clavicles are asymmetrical, never seen that on a real person.
  6. Her wispy hairstrands. Real hair don't appear out of thin air in loops.

Is this an SNL skit?

Previously: Submission Statement Edition

Haven't done these in a while, so let's get started.

  1. Since we haven't really heard any feedback one way or the other, rule 8 is now official. To be fair, we've had a lot less microblog posts than I expected (only one Twitter/X post in the last month even after I waited longer than the initial 1-2 weeks expected, and that was a crosspost.)
  • Again, the rules are always a work in progress, feel free to give your two cents here whenever you like.
  1. As you guys know, PipedLinkBot went completely insane 2 days ago and looks like it's temporarily shut down. So, I'd like to use this opportunity to explain why I banned the bot pretty much immediately after our community reopened. (And gloat a bit, of course)
  • Even though I do agree with the principle of using open source, privacy focused frontend instead of using Youtube directly, I have a real problem with using a bot to respond every time somebody posts a Youtube link. It feels like spam, and it doesn't feel like it serves any utility besides pushing an agenda (even though many people here would agree with it). Most people have seen it around here enough to use pipedvideo if they wanted it to use it already.

  • I think it's always been a rage inducing part of the reddit experience that you see you received a response to your comment, but only have it been a bot smugly correcting your grammar or tell you all your letters are in order or something useless like that. So, for this place, I would like to make sure that everyone you talk to here is a real person as much as possible, because people inspire people to be greater, but bots don't.

I don't know what you're talking about, I'm just your average Hollywood celebrity here to promote my new movie "Barbie", only in theaters July 21st.
