Which I have, but first I had to give a US company money for the device...

But hey, one step at a time. Progress is progress, but we do indeed need to keep going

I need Facebook for my volunteering gig, sadly. I disabled my own profile over 2 years ago now and made a fake profile which only follows the information I need on there and nothing else. I only use it in one specific browser with an extremely good Facebook specific ad blocker.

People caught on that girls and women can have it too and that they can be better at masking than anticipated. Nobody bothered to check me when I had all the symptoms for all my childhood and adolescence. It took me connecting the dots after age 30 to get the diagnosis.

My current cats are pretty different: 1 tux and 1 brown tabby. However in the past we’ve had another 2 tuxes. Those are usually where the mixups happen, between the 3 tux cats. But even those tend to work out most of the time.

Sounds like something an addict would say.

Joke’s aside though I’m happy with my meta-free life after leaving it all behind shortly after the last election results and it being clear that robot boy was (pretending to be) a fan of the orange man.

Only thing I can’t leave yet is WhatsApp because my volunteering group won’t switch. They are mostly boomers so it’s really difficult to get them to move.

Depends on how sophisticated it is. My iPhone has been able to correctly identify and tell apart different cats for about 3 years now and gets it right 90% of the time.

And before I get the comments: yes, I’m about to fully leave the Apple ecosystem.

I used to get overstimulated a lot at office jobs. Turns out I can prevent it just fine from home. For my own mental and physical health I’ll pick working from home any day of the week. Some meetings are more useful in person though, so I do go to the office for those.

Literally just a few seconds ago she was informing me that breakfast is late. She then proceeded to chuck my wireless mouse off my desk.

When our smart cat is particularly annoyed at us she’ll run through the house chucking things off of other things just to watch them fall

If you can’t do the long term stuff others have been mentioning here is a bit more short term stuff:

  • Make sure you have bottled water. Ideally a few weeks worth per person in your household. Remember that cooking uses water too.
  • Medication for as long a period as you can reasonably cover for the people in your household
  • potassium iodine tablets to protect the thyroid in case of nuclear fallout
  • Canned food
  • remember your pets need stuff too if you have them
  • in case there is an infant involved baby formula, diapers and other baby needs

More long term:

  • look into MeshCore or meshtastic for communication
  • radio with a hand crank + spare batteries
  • medkit with bandages, tourniquet, etc. Also learn how to use it.
  • we have 3 ways of heating our house: fireplace, electric and gas. I’m sure that won’t be possible for everyone but the point is diversification where possible.

Yep and that sucks. A lot of people have been working very long to fill the top ranks in the US exclusively with people who are at the very least on board with this kind of behaviour or willing to go along with just about anything blindly, most of which were replaced very recently.

In Europe we seemingly still have enough people left that we’re not compromised. At least enough that they don’t dare to give people a free-pass publicly yet. We’ll see if anyone actually gets punished though or if it’s just for show.
