(Repost with author change)

In the last weeks several databases and websites emerged around the idea of buying European, or local.

Coming from different communities overviews of products and services can (for example) be found at the following websites:

If you are using Firefox or Chrome you can be nudged to do better by using the opensource Go-European-Plugin:

Creator: https://old.reddit.com/r/BuyFromEU/comments/1jp5y0p/i_made_an_app_to_scan_barcode_and_get_the_true/

I have created an app that allows to scan barcode and get the origin of the brands (with information about parent holding company if any). It also suggest EU alternatives for the product scanned.

There is already more than 1.1m product in the databases and 140k brands (out of ~150k) analyzed. The analysis is made by automatic crawlers, so there might get issue regarding that, do not hesitate to report it. Data are coming from the great OpenFoodFacts database.

Play Store (Android): Productr

Currently there is no iOS one, ~~I might create one if people are interested in the app (as App Store pricing is high, I prefer to check if people like the app before paying the fee)~~. EDIT: As a few people is requesting it and are interested, I will proceed to App Store submission for iOS version and pay the required fee. I will keep people informed about that. It should take a few days, the time I get a mac, release app and going through the validation process of Apple (it takes 48hr according to internet, so let's see if it's that fast).

I will publish a web version soon that will allow to use the app without installing it (either android or iOS).

Enjoy ! 🇪🇺

EDIT: Some more information. Cosmetic products are also available on it, but database is quite limited currently and brand crawling has just started. I plan to expand database in upcoming days.

Pet food products should be added soon too

As for TV there is for example arte.tv , a french-german TV channel, which often has good documentaries

Can you recommend any movies, series and TV streams that are lesser known?

Hello. As the title says, do you know some Authenticator alternatives? I've found out Aegis and Bitwarden authenticators so far, even if they're not European alternatives, they're still FOSS though.

I'd like to know what your opinion?

I'm in Canada, and it seems like all bike multi-tool brands are American. I thought Lezyne was from Europe, but nope, American.

Park tool, crankbrothers, Silca, Blackburn... All American.

Are there any European made, or even European brands of multitools for bikes?

I think Topeak might be a European brand, so that could work.

EDIT: Found one! Unior has an entire line of regular tools, and bike tools. Made in Europe (EU) and I can get them in Canada. https://uniortools.com/eng/category/940477/multitools

EDIT 2: wow, they really make everything! They could easily replace all Park Tool tools. I wish I found this brand sooner!

Hey! I know Proton is from the Europe. I already use thier services since many years. But I want to switch from them because of years full of disappointment. Empty Promises for me as a Linux user and also thier recent exit from the Fediverse and the CEOs Political View on Trump. I just don't really trust them anymore. Thats a personal choice and I do not want to discuss this here.

Im looking for alternatives now that are also from the EU and have similar or even better Privacy.

My biggest problem is Proton Pass probally. Because Bitwarden is from USA and also I love the Alias Feature so I would need a new Alias Service from the EU.

For Mail I will simply try Tuta. VPN I already use Mullvad.

So second Problem would be the Drive. Do you have nice solutions for an good cloud provider to save and share files?

Thanks in Advance :)

Does anyone know of a European website/app where you can share your architecture/design portfolio? It seems there is only Behance or Dribble but those are from the US.

Can anyone recommend European brands for loupes (jewelers loupes) and precision scales (0.01g)?

Hi everyone, ive seen this giant painting in Florida and would like to have a painting with the same vibe/image type. Doesnt have to be an obscenely expensive original painting but a copy on linen print is just fine for me. Dimensions roughly 1.5m wide. Looking only for EU sellers, please. Thank you!

Actually I don't need it for my phone, but I need USB charger with 10W output (5V,2A). And I would like it not to cost too much, because I need more than one, but if its guaranteed made in Europe... Or any asian made that is not China? I know this is BuyEuropean, but if there is no option, my second rule is no China/US. Thank you

AFAIK, currently all debit cards are US-based. Mastercard - US based, VISA - US based. We used to have girocard in Germany, but it's being phased out by most banks in favor of one of the US solutions. There used to be the EC system but as I understand it, it's gone for a while now.

Do we currently have any card-based European payment solutions? How much money do we actually give to the US just for the luxury of being able to pay by card?

I was getting disappointed with the quality of Converse boots before this whole thing kicked off. My partner suggested I try the French brand Paladium. The quality is much better. Apparently, the French paras use them. All I can say is they are more comfortable and last longer than my Converse ever did.

I have a genuine question about this movement. Small businesses and startups aren’t the problem. Why “buy from EU” instead of “stop buying from big corporations” regardless of their countries? Small businesses (from anywhere) cannot absorb the rising costs and tariffs, and they are struggling.
