A quick Google search finds that there is ongoing research into the interrelatedness of estrogen and body temperature regulation, which would explain why menopause causes "hot flashes." So there is a definite link there, but the details of how it works are not currently well established, it seems.

If you want a grounding in the basics of how computer exploits work, getting your hands on a copy of Hacking: The Art of Exploitation by Jon Erickson is a decent choice. It's an old book, and things have advanced significantly since then, but the stuff it goes over is still the core of how hacking actually works.
My initial instinct was to read it the first way, and a look into their posting history confirms this, I think.
