focused is not a good word for it but i do think it's fair to say that not actively milking you for data is caring about privacy these days.

You kinda want to only use simpleX for secret communications, things you don't want anyone unauthorized to know about. It's not really made for the use-cases that discord is and it's good to keep a secrecy hygiene so you don't accidentally send sensitive information to the wrong chat.

Meanwhile element (matrix) is specifically targeted at the same use-cases as discord and has good enough end-to-end encryption for general family chats and such, things you'd very much prefer not just being out there in the open but also no one is ever going to bother hacking into.

It's like norway, the only way in which they're not part of the EU is that they don't get to vote and they have a handful of exceptions to highly specific things, e.g. norway REALLY doesn't want to let anyone else tell them how to fish.

hopefully a case of "if i don't include this keyword i will miss out on tons of shit from stupid people who want into the trend"

there's also the option of not insisting that there must be some grand plot, and instead just coming up with cool shit that can exist in an industrialized world filled with benders.

Like fire benders working at a power plant just zapping the shit out of a battery, they could have done more of that.

also the actual model itself (at least some versions of it) aren't even that china-biased, deepseek-r1 run locally can give perfectly factually accurate answers that make the chinese government look bad.

What are you on about? running deepseek-r1 locally in ollama answers "censored" topics just fine, it just answers stuff like a chinese diplomat questioned on live tv

the problem with ubuntu is canonical, it's a shame it's got the reputation as "the third OS" when it's basically the only distro that's trying to replicate the walled gardens of microsoft and apple.

Only problem i have with lemmy is that after scrolling for a bit i end up wading through posts with 0 comments and 2 upvotes, which are inevitably just links to something i do not give a singular toss about.

But that's honestly kinda just good, it forces me to not just stare at my computer nonstop.
