You’ve made a potential error in underestimating just how horrible some peoples’ lives are and how filled with hatred they are over that fact.

What fact? People's lives are horrible BECAUSE of ICE. They're so horrible that I considered that nobody would be "on the fence" because either you drank the Fear-Of-Crime Kool-Aid or you are horrified at what ICE agents are doing to children and poor people. The entire reason there are people who don't think ICE needs to be abolished right now is because Fox News and other right-wing grifters have pumped out propaganda making it look like there is a "crime wave" like it's the Reagan Era, and people living in the Suburbs not knowing what the outside world is like. Not only do they choose to portray a crime wave, they have to do it, because otherwise people would see their president as the power-hungry maniac he is rather than a savior of order. No riot is actually making people miserable, only the police-reported, sensationalist coverage of protests.

This is really what drives so much of politics in the world–disgruntled people with no future who choose to hate others who have nothing to do with it.

That's just the American Suburbs. I hope American states can secede to change this. Meanwhile, in Vietnam, there is a high-speed rail being built. This is not driven by disgruntled people, people with no future, or people who choose not to hate others who have nothing to do with it. Neither is Iran defending itself from an imperialist regime, nor Australia having their left-wing Labour party completely outdo the right-wing Liberal party. America is the villain here.

All of a sudden, so many things are "not protected speech". I find it tempting to be as ignorant as a Republican, but I'd certainly be caught off guard in that case.

PR for who? Who is on the fence about ICE?

And share them with your friends. Learn from Lenin, learn from the Vietnamese, learn from Alpaca farms.

You jest, but even though I hate a lot about the Trump regime, I'm glad that it is eating out its own military capacity like this. It's like when you're incredibly sick in bed, and then it gets a little better for a while.

I mean, I certainly support Bernie. He will do a lot of good, but I'm tired of people worried about Stalin when Trump is worse.

Lemmy should be a place Bernie’s policies are celebrated

Make another instance. You have a Bernie community. I also do support Bernie Sanders, it's just that we all know Trump is bad and saying so is redundant.

Lemmy is complicit in our march towards fascism and their lack of action is telling of their motivations

First of all, a social media site has no action. Regardless, I have seen tons of articles shared on here about how awful Trump is. Secondly, I have been working at food banks and engaging in protests. I've been emailing my senators, and getting people to support Cascadian Separatism, if not Bioregionalism, and letting them know about other ideas that would help. I am also disabled with PDD-NOS by my doctor when I was a toddler, despite this; I do my best to regularly meet people, learn from them, and tell them about my ideas. In fact, I've been voting in State elections and County elections for the candidates that I want, working my best at the State level if not the National level.

You had the perfect "marketing/advertising" and it didn't work because people hate their government.

[–] VerbFlow@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

In an ideal scenario the US would have actual candidates that don’t want to dismantle democracy

In an ideal scenario there would be no federal government and all states would be split apart.

I agree that people should at least check the box, but leftists who are fed up are not the entire reason for "what we have now". A lack of mutual aid alongside politics is also the problem. There is also the whole problem of Suburbia and its culture: one of these problems is a fear of crime and "stranger danger" (this is only a problem when making sure you aren't talking to a federal agent). There are people still watching the same cable television that the internet supposedly replaced wholesale, and most of it's Fox News. These people completely outnumber the people who withhold their vote.

I honestly just hate the United States. I cannot find any other country on Earth that represents such a grave threat to freedom, aside from Israel which is of course a client state. I'd get rid of the "world police" no matter what "terrorists" run rampant because they will never be as terroristic as the U.S. anyway. I will vote for harm reduction, but I really, really want the American Union to break up.

No, it's more of a Mussolinist party. Stalin wasn't that bad.

Sometimes, I'd scroll Reddit because something would link there, but in the case of making a new account, I can't post anything, even comments because there's a minimum karma limit on almost every sub.

The deal is that Lemmy doesn't have the number of users that Reddit has. I suppose I'll make new communities. That'll help.

I downscaled it this time.

I was originally going to put this into the Log, but it might be unwelcome.

You want a way to rattle image-generation Boosters? Most of the arguments they use can be used to defend Googling an image and putting a filter over it.

  • "All forms of media take inspiration from one another, so that means it's fine to Google another image, download it, and apply a filter to call it mine!"
  • "Artists are really privilieged, so it's morally OK to take their art and filter it!"
  • "Using filtered images I downloaded from Google for game sprites will help me finish my game faster!"
  • "I suck at drawing, so I have to resort to taking images from people who can draw and filtering them!"
  • "People saying that my filtered images aren't art are tyrannical! I deserve to have my filtered images be seen as equal to hand-drawn ones!"

AI Boosters use a standard motte-and-bailey doctrine to assert the right to steal art and put it into a dataset, yet entice people to buy their generated images. When Boosters want people to invest in AI, they occupy the bailey and say that "AI is faster and better than drawing by hand". When Boosters are confronted with their ethical problems, as shown above, they retreat into the motte and complain that "it takes tons of time and work to make the AI do what I want". Remember this when you find Boosters. Or don't, since I doubt the sites where they lurk are worth your time.

I want to apologize for changing the description without telling people first. After reading arguments about how AI has been so overhyped, I'm not that frightened by it. It's awful that it hallucinates, and that it just spews garbage onto YouTube and Facebook, but it won't completely upend society. I'll have articles abound on AI hype, because they're quite funny, and gives me a sense of ease knowing that, despite blatant lies being easy to tell, it's way harder to fake actual evidence.

I also want to factor in people who think that there's nothing anyone can do. I've come to realize that there might not be a way to attack OpenAI, MidJourney, or Stable Diffusion. These people, which I will call Doomers from an AIHWOS article, are perfectly welcome here. You can certainly come along and read the AI Hype Wall Of Shame, or the diminishing returns of Deep Learning. Maybe one can even become a Mod!

Boosters, or people who heavily use AI and see it as a source of good, ARE NOT ALLOWED HERE! I've seen Boosters dox, threaten, and harass artists over on Reddit and Twitter, and they constantly champion artists losing their jobs. They go against the very purpose of this community. If I hear a comment on here saying that AI is "making things good" or cheering on putting anyone out of a job, and the commenter does not retract their statement, said commenter will be permanently banned. FA&FO.

Alright, I just want to clarify that I've never modded a Lemmy community before. I just have the mantra of "if nobody's doing the right thing, do it yourself". I was also motivated by the decision from u/spez to let an unknown AI company use Reddit's imagery. If you know how to moderate well, please let me know. Also, feel free to discuss ways to attack AI development, and if you have evidence of AIBros being cruel and remorseless, make sure to save the evidence for people "on the fence". Remember, we don't know if AI is unstoppable. AI uses up loads of energy to be powered, and tons of circuitry. There may very well be an end to this cruelty, and it's up to us to begin that end.
