This is exactly it. I’ve worked with 2 different teams in this new era. One has all strong engineers and good review and testing standards. The other has 20% bad engineers that should have been fired years ago and’s weaker testing culture. The result is the strong team is delivering higher quantity software faster than ever, and the other team is going fast with much worse results. The quality is very bad, and the good engineers still there are quitting.

The good engineers spend their whole days just trying to keep the ship afloat and minimizing the harm from the bad engineers. They hate it and are burning out fast.

I don’t know about Gemini because I haven’t used it, but the other frontier models are absolutely smart enough to do some damage. If your only exposure to them is playing with the chat feature and asking it how many rs are in strawberry, you’re getting a skewed impression, IMO, and I’m not surprised you think they’re dumb.

The best models are getting scary good at programming. Not to the point of entirely replacing humans, but to the point where I don’t think software engineering will ever go back to being done by “hand.”

I think it comes down to the fact that programming tasks are inherently testable and verifiable in a way that most other tasks simply aren’t. The AI can write and run tests that directly tell it if it needs to adjust its approach. You don’t have that with prose or other less quantifiable tasks.

Sorry, I’m rambling a bit here, but my point is that hacking is wicked close to programming in skill set and in that you get really quick feedback if your approach is good or not. So, when you have an AI system that can just keep trying things essentially indefinitely, it’s scary good at compromising other systems and can do way more than the funny demos of LLMs confidently asserting very obviously wrong facts will make you believe.

Idk where you get the idea that it has anything at all to do with all that. I’m merely commenting on your premise that somehow a republican would be better than a dem for trans rights.

If you truly think that, I think you’re delusional.

I understand being upset that your choices are a christofascist and a terf, but electing the theocrat isn’t going to help with that.

If you’ve somehow convinced yourself that a house rep losing in fucking Ohio of all places is going to be the bellwether that changes minds in the dnc on these issues, you 👏 are 👏wrong 👏

If you want to change Democratic Party positions and which candidates get support, there are lots of ways to do that. Voting for a republican is not one of them. IMO vote these people out in primaries.

But since it’s too late for that, show up at her rallies and protest. Make her address it by being loud. But don’t delude yourself into thinking you’d be better off with the maga cultist.

My impression of the folks cheering this on are mostly opposed to crypto on environmental grounds.

Personally, I’m more just weirded out by a policy like this. Even though I’m not a crypto fan, it seems like a really unusual hill to die on for an OSS hosting app.
