Win32 is already the most stable interface on Linux, so Wine and its variants like Proton are all we need for games.

If you want a stable native interface you pick one of the steam linux runtimes (and yes you can use them without steam) and target that.

Tom 7. Posts very infrequently but generally makes videos that complement his SIGBOVIK submissions which are the intersection of theory and impracticality. Example.

when the TF2 mods that were barred on these grounds are currently in the process of being released on steam.

TF2 now has an official SDK which those mods are using instead of the source code leaks. There is no equivalent SDK for CS:GO/CS2.

The fact that every other sourcemod that isn't based on leaked code has always been approved suggests that there's something else at play here.

I hope they're able to resolve whatever the issue is. In theory there's nothing stopping them from just releasing it as a standalone sourcemod, like those TF2 projects before the official SDK was out, unless they've attached their real identities to the mod. If not, there's always the newly announced CS:Legacy (which uses Source SDK 2013) I guess.

Per reddit:

  • New voice acting (mixed in with original voices - each race has a unique voice now)
  • New combat animations with hit feedback
  • Sprinting system added
  • Reworked third-person view (aim was to match Starfield's TPV)
  • New levelling system (fusion of Oblivion + Skyrim...whatever that means)
  • New interface (retains the general aesthetic of the original game's UI)
  • New content with Deluxe Edition
  • Every model/texture in the game has been remade by hand
  • Remastered VFX and SFX, added effects for combat
  • Uses Unreal Engine 5 for graphics, original engine for core gameplay systems.
