There are multiple channels I check throughout the day for reports. When I woke up this morning, there were three separate reports of this one (this is the second account they've made).

Please don't assume someone else has reported something. Personally, I don't mind reports from multiple channels.

For users or posts on lemmy.world, at least, if it's in a larger community, the mods are likely in a Discord server that can help bubble/filter that up to admins here. Or at least me, as I try to keep an eye out there. If you're sure someone is breaking instance-wide rules (like this spammer), that is something to raise to our attention, please. (If it's community rules, that should be reported to the community moderators). You can PM me, although when I'm away or sleeping that will delay action. I'm actually not sure which channel(s) my fellow admins would prefer I recommend, but if nothing else !support@lemmy.world is one of the ones you can use.

We're all volunteers and some of these things can take some time to deal with, so I just wanted to ask your patience sometimes and jsut remind that you see the stuff that slips through and not the stuff we're catching before it gets to you. :)

I did a little googling (and recommend others do instead of just upvoting/downvoting on vibes), and it appears that a former employee claimed to have faced discrimination after coming out as trans. Whether that's enough for someone to be bothered is a choice for them to make.

I'm personally not sure that signing on to the new HP is itself a very clear indicator. I will not support JKR's projects these days, and for me, I have stopped consuming Harry Potter completely. I'm just saying that it can be a hard decsion where to draw a line and what lines not to cross.

I don't even know where to begin to try and guess where you think you get that from.

Technically, one of the things that makes it worse - some of the folks I used to work with still had MR as their official medical diagnosis - less than a decade ago, and since most of them were young enough to probably be still alive, they still have it.

I suggest using the power of your free speech to walk up in person too anyone of color and using any of those words to their face and see how your "free speech" goes.

Furthermore, a little reasearch on what "free speech" means and doesn't mean might be in order.

What I find interesting is that so many people seem to want to stand up on the side of bigotry and demand their "right" to be a bigot and use bigoted language. I'm not sure that's really a great look.

Perhaps you misunderstand, so let's go back to the basics.

Lemmy.World TOS prohibits the use of, among other things, ableist slurs.

If you use such slurs, expect to face consequences.

I am a Lemmy admin, and part of what I do is enforce the TOS when I see violations.

We may choose to simply remove rule-breaking comments, or hand out temp-bans or perma-bans to those that can't seem to follow the rules.

If you cannot follow the rules, I suppose you will eventually find out the consequences for yourself.

So ultimately, I don't care if you agree with the TOS or not. Only whether you follow them.

I don't understand why so many people here are standing up on the side of bigotry. I really don't. It makes me sad.

If it takes me to make you empathetic towards the victims of those ableist slurs...... I don't know what to tell ya. I don't think it's a good look, though.

But fuck ableist slurs. You shouldn't attack fascism using slurs that harm real people. And even if you disagree, ableist slurs are against the rules.

It's like getting pulled over for speeding on your way to a protest and accuding the cop of supporting fascism (which might be a fair comparison in that case, sure, I realise this isn't a perfect analogy).

Call Patel any number of delightful terms that point out his fascism, inhumanity, stupidity, idiocy - whatever you'd like. But don't be ableist, transphobic, homophobix, racist, misogynist et cetera when you do so.

So? Is ableism by someone on the spectrum supposed to be acceptable? Do I need to find a person who is black to give me permission to use the N word? Maybe I should find a woman to give me permission to be misogynist?

Interesting. You stand against homophobia, but stand for ableism. Perhaps you also measure you neighbors' lawns with a ruler?
