On the emulation front, you've got it broadly right, but one thing worth flagging: it does better than "PSX and under" with the right config. I've not run Rocknix so I can't speak to that specifically, but on GammaOS I've had good results with Dreamcast, N64 and PSP. Good, not perfect — a few of the heavier titles still struggle — and 3DO works fairly well too. GC and PS2 are definitely out, so your read there's correct.

The colour question is the fun one. The blue is more of a turquoise than a true blue — it sits on the greener side, so it leans towards teal rather than away from it. Not quite a pure teal, and not bright or loud.

Fingerprints: the Turquoise Blue is the more forgiving of the two. The red/black shows them up a bit more.

Ecco the Dolphin, a classic from the 1990s, is making a return with both remasters of its original titles and a brand new game. This revival was confirmed in an interview with Xbox Wire and will be led by series creator Ed Annunziata.

    Development Team and Games

All members of the original development team are reuniting for these projects, including Annunziata who stated: "Me and the entire original team are going to remaster the original Ecco the Dolphin and The Tides of Time games". Following these remasters, they plan to create a new, third game with contemporary play mechanics.

    Release Schedule

The countdown on the official Ecco the Dolphin website points to April 25-26, 2026 — approximately 353 days from now. While specific platforms haven’t been confirmed yet, Xbox Series X|S releases and PlayStation 5 versions are likely.

This revival comes after a long hiatus for the franchise, with the last entry released in 2000. SEGA had previously filed trademarks for Ecco-related properties in Japan on December 27, 2024.

    Gameplay and Reception

The original Ecco games were notable for their unique underwater gameplay, atmospheric storytelling, and high difficulty level. This new release aims to capture both the spirit of the past and enhance it with modern sensibilities.

    Reviving Classic IPs

This is part of SEGA's broader strategy of resurrecting classic properties like Jet Set Radio and Crazy Taxi.

What do you think about seeing Ecco the Dolphin back in action after so many years?

Rich Whitehouse, the creator behind BigPEmu, is set to launch his new and improved Killer Instinct emulator in beta. Initially a fully-commercial project, funding had been pulled back in March this year, but now it seems that enough support has come through on Patreon to keep the development going.

According to Rich Whitehouse's statement, the beta release will be made available in just a few days, giving fans of the classic fighting game an exciting opportunity to try out what could very well be the best way to experience Killer Instinct and Killer Instinct 2.

    Some key features include:

    • Silky Smooth Multiplayer
    • Brand New Stereo Sound Script
    • Fast MIPS III Interpreter

You can gain access to the emulator by backing Rich on Patreon.

Soon you'll be able to play Diddy Kong Racing natively on your PC

The Diddy Kong Racing Decompilation project is around 80% complete.

    The Trend of Decompilation

This process allows the homebrew community to recompile native versions of classic games like Star Fox, Super Mario 64, and Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Diddy Kong Racing's Place in N64 History

Released in 1997, Diddy Kong Racing is one of the best examples of a kart-based racer on the N64. Fans even claim it trumps Nintendo's own offering on the same console.

Creating motion capture and being in control of a set of fighting characters was like a dream for me. But after taking a break from two ‘pretty gory’ and dark games, Diddy Kong Racing was like a breath of fresh air and happiness.

-- Kev Bayliss, former Rare staffer (2023)

    The Road Ahead

The project is 80% complete. It should be noted that, in these projects, the final percentage points often take the longest to complete.

    Potential enhancements include

    • 4K resolution
    • Ultra-wide screen support
    • Improved frame rate
    • Support for mods like new characters and tracks.

How do you think Diddy Kong Racing compares with Mario Kart?

Pixel FX, known for their wide range of HDMI solutions, has now introduced an internal adapter that brings HDMI to the GameCube.

What Does This Mean For GameCube Enthusiasts?

The GEM adapter preserves your GameCube’s clean, boxy design by integrating internally, unlike the external adapters offered by other companies.

To install the GEM mod, users will need to be comfortable with soldering and DIY electronics due to its invasive nature. However, once installed, it promises clearer and crisper visuals that can significantly enhance the viewing experience for GameCube owners without breaking their budgets.

    Conclusion

The Pixel FX GEM mod is a valuable advancement for GameCube owners who wish to enjoy their games in higher definition and want a self-contained set-up. Some may even prefer the DIY challenge.

Do you think the Pixel FX GEM will set a new standard, or are there any other solutions that you prefer?

    Overview

The recently released XenonRecomp tool (link in the original article) has brought renewed interest to the world of decompiling/recompiling console games for PC. This open-source project converts X360 executables into C++ code, which can then be recompiled on any platform. Currently, it only supports x86 platforms and holds immense potential.

    Impact on Gaming

There are over 500 delisted Xbox 360 titles that could now receive a much-needed boost in accessibility and legacy with this tool. Notable games such as After Burner Climax, Daytona USA, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, and many others can potentially find their way to PC without losing quality or functionality.

There is also the tantalizing prospect for a native PC version of the GoldenEye 007 XBLA port.

What classic Xbox 360 game are you most excited to see reborn on PC thanks to this tool?

The handheld will be available in two different models and four colourways:

    • Ice Blue
    • Black
    • GC (an obvious nod to the Nintendo GameCube)
    • 16-Bit US (a reference to the Super Nintendo's US design)

There are two separate models, each featuring a different SoC:

    • First model: Snapdragon 865 SoC (from the Retroid Pocket Mini and Pocket 5)
    • Second model: MediaTek D1100 SoC (from the Retroid Pocket 4 Pro)

Both models share the following specs:

    • A 5.5” 1080p AMOLED screen
    • 8GB Low Power DDR4X RAM
    • 128 GB Universal Flash Storage
    • Android 13 OS

    However, differences exist:

    • The Snapdragon SoC model offers faster charging speed
    • The D1100 SoC model uses a newer version of Bluetooth

GoRetroid has stated that pricing details and pre-order dates will be announced soon.

What do you think of these specs?
