I am a lurker, mostly. I have never tried to change anyone’s opinion online that I can think of. But as a lurker, you can bet that my viewpoint might be changed by a good argument, even if it’s not directed at me. Just as it happens with religion, I’m sure there are conservatives (or leftists for that matter) on the internet that may have cracks beginning to form in their worldviews, and the right exposure on the internet can send them down a rabbit hole of questioning and considering alternatives. I suspect a major part of the reason I have gotten more and more leftist myself over time is because of exposure to good arguments on the left and much fewer on the right, plus the lack of desire from the right to partake in good faith arguments.
So what I’m saying is, your argument may not get through to the target, but there is collateral … well, not damage, but you get what I mean.
Sorry no, you are right, the first one is very campy. It’s been a while so I may be misremembering a bit. But what I meant was that Superman himself plays it pretty straight. (I think?) Lex was ridiculous. Do any of Gunn’s characters play the straight man? I’m mostly familiar with GOTR, though I did see Suicide Squad once; I just don’t remember much of it. I feel like every GOTR character is pretty ridiculous except for maybe Gamora but even she has moments.
I’m not sure how I feel about Gunn’s signature silliness for Superman. I guess if I really think about it, the Supermans I have known and loved have been Reeve, Cain, and Cavill. The first was relatively straightforward with moments of humor (just the first one, not the sequels). The second was, if memory serves, leaning into the camp but also more about the soap-opera-style relationship building. The third was pretty serious of course. But I feel like in all of them, Superman was played pretty straight, and maybe the side characters were allowed to lean into the camp or the melodramatics. If Gunn’s is too silly a la GOTG, I can see it falling flat.

I started watching YouTube during the pandemic I think, and at this point I don’t watch much standard TV at all and have gone back to reading and audiobooks which is way more fulfilling.
Has always been my favorite frosting in a can. Can’t always find it though, and the only recipe I found for it online takes sooo much work.
