My dad has dimentia, and I sometimes wonder if it's because my mom didn't let him have a thought of his own for 50 years.

Original Title: Study found that people who were not married were less at risk (at least 50% lower risk) than married people for dementia. One contributing factor may be that single people are better at maintaining social ties. Single people may also have a greater variety of interesting and unique experiences.

Took me a bit longer on this one than the usual dad joke.

I was a Unix sysadmin for years and never once used the num pad. I'm in sales now for 25 years and still don't use it. I mean, it's always been a goal of mine but I just never think of it when it's time to use it, and it's slower for me to use it than not use it. And I don't enter enough numbers to get enough practice to be good at it.

If I felt it was the best way to save my country from destruction, yes I would. I wouldn't let him act against the best interests of my country, but I would kiss his ass if I thought it would help. From everything I've seen, Stubb is staunchly against Russia's imperialist ambitions, so unless he's really just blowing hot air about that, I doubt he will just go along with Trump's current plans for Europe.

[–] realitista@lemm.ee 7 points 4 days ago (1 children)

What's your beef with Stubb?

[–] realitista@lemm.ee -2 points 4 days ago (3 children)

Stubb seems like a levelheaded guy who knows what's up. He has a whole channel of YouTube videos explaining his positions, and he's mostly got the right idea about economics and geopolitics IMO. Yes, he's kissing Trump's ass, but I think he's doing it to keep things on track in Europe as much as possible.

Their success rate would have been a lot higher if they had known when to stop ;-). I think if the stated goal of defending Europe from Russia doesn't change that they have a very good chance of success given the numbers they are talking about.

We just don't work as accountants ;-).

A new Swedish study reveals that many common office coffee machines fail to filter out cholesterol-elevating compounds found in coffee, sometimes leaving behind even more than espresso or French press. Depending on the machine and brewing method, the amount of harmful diterpenes like cafestol and kahweol can vary widely, and frequent coffee drinkers may be unknowingly boosting their LDL cholesterol levels.

Original Title: TIL In 1983, it was announced on radio that the hard to find Cabbage Patch Dolls would be dropped from a plane at County Stadium. People just needed to hold up a catcher’s mitt and their credit card, to be photographed by the plane. 20-30 people fell for the prank and showed up at the stadium.

The ubiquitous ESP32 microchip made by Chinese manufacturer Espressif and used by over 1 billion units as of 2023 contains an undocumented "backdoor" that could be leveraged for attacks.

The undocumented commands allow spoofing of trusted devices, unauthorized data access, pivoting to other devices on the network, and potentially establishing long-term persistence.

This was discovered by Spanish researchers Miguel Tarascó Acuña and Antonio Vázquez Blanco of Tarlogic Security, who presented their findings yesterday at RootedCON in Madrid.
