Interesting point, but there's also to consider that guns are completely optional to possess and use. On the other hand, depending on were you live, you are bound to drive a car to go to work and have a decent life.

I'm using Organic Maps and I like it a lot, but nothing is as feature complete as Google Maps sadly. You always have to make a compromise.
IMO the best choices are Tuta Mail or Proton Mail. Proton has the best UI and UX but is a bit controversial due to its CEO. I personally use Proton because the UI is that much better.
GOG store is also to keep in mind. It's run by CDProject and offers DRM free games
We need some laws that make companies expose messaging apps APIs so that a third party open source app that talks to all the different messaging services can finally emerge.
