Scottish courts ruled, and then upheld in the Scottish government’s favor, that sex is “not limited to biological or birth sex,” and must include those in possession of a gender recognition certificate (GRC).

But that was challenged in London’s Supreme Court by campaigners. And, in its ruling Wednesday, the country’s highest court said the meaning of the terms “sex,” “man” and “woman” in the U.K.’s Equality Act must refer to “biological sex” — with any other interpretation deemed “incoherent and impracticable.”

And here lies the issue. Maybe I am understanding how society and science are defining terms in these cases, but: doesn’t woman/man = gender (which differs depending on culture, time period, etc) and female/male = sex (which is a medical/scientific term)? It appears both sides of the table are trying to make these terms mean something they do not.

Either way, I see no practical point in actually making a law defining these terms, especially when the legal definition is not even correct scientifically speaking. There are so many biological changes that trans individuals go through when they medically transition and society will see them differently if they “pass” in their society. Also, sex isn’t so black and white either.

The thing about the stock market, no one freaking knows. The market has taken horrible dives before and has recovered. I also don’t believe the USA is the only country that should be worried if something does go down. The fact that some experts are saying things could be different may be worrying, but ultimately no one knows. All we can do is try our best to prepare for the worst. I wouldn’t be surprised if the protests continue to grow over the summer months in the USA.

Yep. Traffic gets the hell out of the way and stops immediately if there are emergency vehicles trying to get through where I live, even in the city.

Deleted my Reddit account when I could no longer use Apollo, but still kept up with a few subs for certain info. Finally discovered Lemmy and after being here for a short while I’ve nearly stopped visiting. This news has given me the push to be done 100%.

Personally, I think either option is valid. Not everyone is cut out for the fight, and especially if you have children, it makes sense for a parent to do what is best. I wouldn’t blame anyone one bit for leaving. I honestly haven’t created an exit plan this far, so I might just end up staying and fighting.

I had to replace mine once. Put it in a safer spot and haven’t had to move it since. I can’t imagine what someone is doing where they’d need to replace a social security card 10 times.

As soon as I read the article, I was thinking the same thing! What the hell…

Ugh, I am having flashbacks of when my grandma talked about the one drop rule… She told us stories of what it was like being black in the 1950s. I just can’t imagine the public letting things go back to that point, but with the insanity I’ve been seeing…

So… what happens now that there are more multiracial children and couples more than ever? More non-white individuals than before? The shift in acceptance has changed so much, even from the 90s.

Some of us are, but when I speak of these things out loud, I even sound crazy to myself. It’s just so unbelievable.
