Why would anyone ask him that?

Incoming onion article: NRA says using guns to overthrow tyrannical government a right, not an obligation

Edit: I don't knows if I should remove this, it is in bad taste, this is a gravely serious thing.

Initially my thought was this is what they'll actually say or something -- kind of dark humour.

I wish all Americans the best over the next several years.

I just got Anno 1880 and it's latched right on to the optimization part of my brain.

If I just arrange the pig pens this way for soap production I get this modular section I can paste and rotate, plus it saves 4 tiles on my island

It has not been good for my sleep.

It's not as bad as Factorio though, that game turns me into a husk of a human that wants nothing but to make the factory grow.

My cat asks for permission to enter certain rooms and I half think he’s part vampire.

He has to be invited to enter.

Our girl is 16 and she has arthritis and some sinus/breathing issues.

She’s been doing laser treatments for arthritis and it’s been working very well. The other day she came up to me and meowed to indicate she wanted to play, then she ran down the stairs after me and she went full out for like 20 minutes, just playing like she was 10 years younger.

I stopped to text my wife a picture and she (the cat) yowled at me until I went back to playing.

It was the most fulfilling play session, it’s been impossible to get her to go after toys and she’s been so lethargic and guarded for a long time.

If the AI is going to kill humanity someday I want it to spare me.

Except for some reason I can’t help but be a dick to Gemini.

Couple things:

I've interviewed literally hundreds of people for jobs, it is incredibly rare I look at a resume and see red flags. Even when I see red flags, I still interview the person, I just go in being mindful there might be an issue and dig a little. Don't worry too much about that.

Secondly, you deserve your friends no matter how you feel.

You don't fit in the cookie cutter mould, so what? Most of my friends are "weird" in some way. I have a couple who like you work odd jobs and have very little money and smoke pot all the time. They're still friends. We give them rides to places sometimes and we do it without thinking about it because we love them and that's what you do for friends.

I promise you whatever you think your friends are judging you for, unless you're being a real asshole, they're not even thinking twice about.

And lastly you sound like you feel how I did before meds. Meds and therapy helped me a lot, no idea your situation but at least meds might be worth persuing.

All the best, I'm very sorry about the gender care and government health stuff, that sucks. I hate dealing with that kind of thing, so all I can offer is my sympathy.

A few things that might help about triggering mean behaviour:

  • Often "just asking questions" is used by trolls to trigger arguments or pull people into debates. That's why when you use that language people get immediately aggressive online. Try asking for where or how you can learn more instead, it's more genuine and let's other people feel like they won't be obligated to argue later.
  • "Why don't you just" type questions can come off as dismissing all the thought that went into something. If you rephrase to learning more about a topic you can often avoid that.
  • Don't be afraid to walk away from online discussions that hurt your feelings. It's okay to apologize and clarify, or leave a response not answered if you're in an argument online. There are a lot of angry/grumpy people who are happy to lash out when you give them a chance. They don't reflect most people in the world, they're just very over represented online.

I think also as you get older you will learn more about yourself and build up some confidence to shield your feelings. It's valid to feel hurt, but over time you learn which things matter and which do not.

So today I discovered that there's a cron job that holds non-reproducible state that died, and now our system is fucked.

The cron job doesn't live inside any source control. This morning it entered a terminal state, and because it overwrites its state there's no way to revert it.

I'm currently waiting for the database rollback and have rewritten it in a reproducible/idempotent way.

Every night before bed my cat either waits at the bathroom for me or runs into the bathroom at full speed for before bed bathroom time. If I’m up too late he tries to get me to go to bed to keep his routine.

Today he wasn’t there so I just went without him.

After I came out he sat at the door staring at me meowing. My wife convinced me to give him fake bathroom time, so I went to the bathroom and sat down and pet him for a minute or two then left.

Except when I left he just sat at the door, clearly knowing it wasn’t real bathroom time. He’s being yelling and howling since and refuses to come to bed now that I’ve broken our ritual.

Hey all, things are getting tough out there so I wanted to seek out what your tips are for getting a little more value out of cooking

My tips:

  • I throw all my vegetable trimmings into a freezer bag for stock later
  • Breaking down a whole chicken can be cheaper than buying specific cuts. This varies a lot depending on the sales.
  • Save the drippings in your pan after cooking meats. I put them in containers and label them, then use them for flavouring or roux
  • This one will sound weird, but I smell the potatoes at the store. After a while you'll be able to smell a difference in which ones will last longer.

In general I just try and find ways to use up all the bits of food that get discarded.

I'm still only a novice chef, so any of your tips would be greatly appreciated.
