Without any flashy marketing campaigns or social media fanfare, Valve rolled out a routine Steam Client update containing a very simple line in the patch notes: “Improved Steam Client startup performance.”

It’s vibe coded, and what they actually need to do is build up their features

It was only very recently you could even look at your own games library. The ecosystem couldn't/wouldn't tell you if you owned a game or not.

They have zero social integration features and it's 2026.

Anybody who defends them is delusional, EPIC are absolute garbage, they are not competing with Valve despite what people keep saying. There is no competition.

Their vibe code lead to an improvement to what we actually use, so it's a win.

I don’t see how the application opening somewhat faster is much of an improvement; they need to go after feature parity if they want to actually compete with Steam.

I hate people that need to act like Epic, or any other competition with Valve, has to be viewed negatively. You can't even admit that this is an improvement for Steam. What's wrong with you that makes you feel the need to defend this massive corporation so much?

You’re confusing me shitting on Epic as defending Valve, I’m not. I am on record stating people are dumb to glaze Gabe so much when he is so rich he owns a yacht maker, not even just a yacht or two. That doesn’t mean Tim Sweeney and Epic aren’t shit. Tim is at the vanguard of pushing an AI first development pipeline so he can go fuck himself. A launcher loading slightly faster isn’t a big deal. Sorry if that opinion upsets you.

You came out to argue that speeding up the launcher doesn't matter, against someone who thinks it does. How is that not defending them? Do you just need to take any opportunity to shit on Epic? Is that what it is? If so, that's fucking weird.

I don’t think speeding up the launcher matters much. My argument is speeding up the launcher when EGS is not even close to feature parity isn’t all that great a use of effort. A clown car may be faster than a minivan but the van is still better for everyday use.

They could have done this without vibe coding too. Or is nobody in Epic Games able to program anymore? Even the communities doing a better job and they are not even paid to do this.
