▲ 218 ▼ Steam Introduces Scoped-Achievements (steamcommunity.com) submitted 1 week ago* by nekobeko@lemmy.world to c/pcgaming@lemmy.ca 48 comments fedilink hide all child comments A new beta release for the Steam client includes scoped-achievements. Achievements can now be split into game mode specific, DLC specific and seasonal specific achievements. In theory, this will now allow players to achieve achievement completion, even though they're not interested in the multiplayer aspect of a game.

But some of the achievements are only possible to complete with certain DLC. An achievement "Make a Hot-Air Balloon Line" can only be done if you have the DLC letting you create Hot-Air Balloon lines, and so if you can't do 30% of the achievements because of DLC you don't have, the maximum completion you can attain without paying is 70%. In the prior format at times it might not be clear which achievements required DLC, including hidden ones. New scoped format is an improvement. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] Dnb@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 point 6 days ago (1 child) I'm not saying it's not better, just confused how its "p2w" when achievements are completely optional and don't effect gameplay or anything. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 1 child comment replies: [–] AceFuzzLord@lemmy.zip 2 points 6 days ago* Not Rentlar, but what I got out of it is having the achievements locked behind paid DLC being shown despite not owning the DLC makes them feel more p2w than not for completionists by virtue of devs saying you haven't 100% the game without all paid DLC. permalink fedilink source parent
