Controversial opinion: What RFK jr said here is what every Western person is taught in school. The West has systemically erased any non-European achievement from its literature. Going as far as to rename prominent Muslim scholars such as Ibn Sinna and Ibn Rushd and give them names like Avicenna or Averroes.

This is a way to indoctrinate studente of science by giving them the idea that all of modern science has originated from the West since all they see is Western names.

What RFK jr says here is not a failure of his own education. It is what he has been indoctrinated with by the Western education system.

    • Be me.

    • Middle ages monk.

    • Translating arabic works

    • Arabic omitted short vowels, so it was written e.g. BN.

    • My local Andalusian Arab neighbour pronounces that as Aven, Abven, Avin, and س Sin (s in sinna) was pronounced Ts.

    • So I write Avicenna.

And now some shmuck comes 1k years later and calls it malicious systemic erasure.

Is this the excuse they came up with?

So change it back they know what it sounds like. It is fully Latinized for a much different reason.

Literally starts with his name, and mention that he is known as Avicenna in the West.

Go to English Wikipedia and reverse the redirect to go to Ibn Sina from Avicenna, if that is the core of your problem. Wikipedia is famously free to edit.

Then google more to see all the damn example of using Ibn Sina (Avicenna).

Controversial opinions are supposed to be opinions, not claims of fact. And what you said isn't true. RFK's idiotic opinions don't represent the country as a whole

The controversial part of my claim is that he does represent the country as a whole. This is what the education system teaches people in the West.

When you look up anything about scientific achievements on the internet it will all be about 1500s to 1700s Europe, completely disregarding the 900s to 1200s Islamic golden age in Iraq, where Europe kick started most of its scientific knowledge from. Famous European scholars such as Fibonacci studied math in Algeria under Arabic teachers. Who got most of their material from the house of knowledge in Baghdad Iraq, the worldwide center of science at the time. Now only known for fake WMDs and oil.

It is an insidious type of censorship where people are selectively informed when seeking information on science. They are only told about Western achievements. Thus they start thinking what RFK said because that is their logical conclusion.

Try looking up when science kicked off or about the biggest scientific achievements and it will talk about either ancient Greece in 500bc or about the 1500s and later unless you specifically start looking for it. Always Europe.

When you look up anything about scientific achievements on the internet it will all be about 1500s to 1700s Europe, completely disregarding the 900s to 1200s Islamic golden age in Iraq,

    1. You literally must be looking into wrong places. No idea where and what.

    2. The golden age in the Abbasid Caliphate, not in the Iraq. Be precise here.

Golden age of Iraq was mid 20th century when poverty was minimalised, education flourished, literacy skyrocketed, and arts boomed. Just after WW2 and during oil boom.

    1. It wasn't just Baghdad (currently in Iraq), it was Cairo, Damascus, Fez, Samarkand, etc.

most of its scientific knowledge from. Famous European scholars such as Fibonacci studied math in Algeria under Arabic teachers. Who got most of their material from the house of knowledge in Baghdad Iraq, the worldwide center of science at the time

This is such a nationalistic take. Bayt al-Hikma started with translating all other existing knowledge there was to obtain. Including Greek. Including Hindu. Took them about 200 years of doing that before they added on top of it. And now you, who claim this to be forgotten ancestor, that should've get credited ("Fibonacci taught by Algerians, but they should be crediting Baghdad Iraq instead"), are doing the same. Baghdad Iraq and Arabic Numerals? Please, according to your logic here, its Hindu numerals in Arabic Gobar font.

Did you have social studies growing up? I did, and I remember learning a slew of names that I didn't have any idea how to pronounce.

We learned about discoveries that stemmed from various parts of the globe.

I can't remember very much of it, because I preffered science and math classes in Junior high. This was in a small town in Texas too, in the 00s.
