I believe that there is a tangible difference between the examples of squirrels throwing sand and elephants showering themselves in water in spray patterns, and those examples of fish jetting a stream of water directly at a target. And (not a biologist or anything even remotely close) I would hazard to guess that there is substantial difference in cognitive requirements for these as well.
Fun fact, gourami that people keep as pets are related to archerfish and if you give them food to knock down off leaves in your aquarium I've seen videos of them doing it in home aquariums, its mega cute :)
