- Be respectful: no harassment, hate speech, bigotry, and/or trolling.
- Encourage conversation in your OP. This means including heavily implicative subject matter when you can and also engaging in your thread when possible.
- Avoid controversial topics (e.g. politics or societal debates).
- Stay calm: Don’t post angry or to vent or complain. We are a place where everyone can forget about their everyday or not so everyday worries for a moment. Venting, complaining, or posting from a place of anger or resentment doesn't fit the atmosphere we try to foster at all. Feel free to post those on !goodoffmychest@lemmy.world

The only reason to let kids see ads is to train them to reject the ads' messages. Maybe also explain the way ads pay for shows but it doesn't mean you have to listen to them. Just like you can keep the "thank you gift" stickers without sending money if you're not into that charity.
You should start making ads for your children if you really want them to reject the messages. You can record the ads with your phone together with your partner. Here are a couple of loose ideas.
"I drank out of the milk carton, so my parents sent me up state. Don't be like Tom, use a glass!"
"I drew on the walls, now I live in the garage. Creativity has its place, and it's not on the living room walls."
"I refused to clean up my toys, now my only toy is the lawn mower. Every year hundreds of children are sentenced to needles chores, be smart, clean up after yourself or we'll clean up your act."
"I didn't listen to my parents, now I'm a homeless bum with a pokemon addiction. Not listening? Not even once."
Then let your kids make their own ads.
"I cooked broccoli and now the whole house smells like farts! I should have made pizza instead!"
"My son's a crackhead because I didn't let my kids get a puppy. Pets give kids the love they need to become well-adjusted adults."
"I told my babysitter there was a monster under the bed but she didn't believe me. When she lifted the bed skirt to prove it, a big scary burglar came out! We were lucky he just yelled at us and ran away! True story! Remember, always believe your kids no matter what they say!"
