I hope they expand their device offering beyond niche eReaders; there's a lot of people with Kindles that Amazon is trying hard to turn into paperweights.

    It's all ESP32 devices, I don't know if Kindles use that chip (probably not). Any device that's mildly powerful won't be using it anyway. It seems like it's their open source project for Xteink's ereaders including some e-ink displays, not an independent platform, so it's not gonna be useful for third party devices.
