❗️In a landmark move today, the Lebanese parliament approved a law abolishing the death penalty, replacing it with life imprisonment with hard labor.
While Lebanon has maintained an official and practical moratorium on executions since 17 January 2004, the Ministry of Justice’s Directorate of Prisons reported that 85 individuals remained on death row.
