Since the bottom pictures labeling is invisible on black background: its a population density map of Germany by municipality.

    Yes and no. There was a big drain of population before they closed the borders with military shooting orders, but the areas dispopulated now were already the not heavily populated areas more than 100 years ago.

    The big population areas in Germany are those areas where they build industry during the Industrialisationin the 19th century.
