"X is acting like Voldemort. Voldemort level evil. Literally 1984." What are you a child?

If someone brags about reading for status but only reads fiction, their knowledge is useless in practice. Fiction can be great, but treat it like junk food, enjoyable but not real world wisdom

A lot of people who say "this is literally 1984" have never even read that book and treat that book like gospel, all of the books that snitch Orwell wrote are trash to me.

Jorjor orwil made a point about how IncSoc was evvvviiiilll because they encouraged volcel so the main female love interest rebelled by sleeping with strangers - I don’t think the Soviet Union was particularly anti-sex and it lowkey reminded of the time when leftist men pretended OF was the upmost feminist liberation or something.

    OF? is it OnlyFans?

In Orwell's case, he was genuinely a sexist man, so that reflected in his writing. He was probably not concerned whether the USSR was anti-sex or not.

Today, I don't know why so many people think that a woman objectifying herself is feminism.

    Edit: clarification

yeah, this exactly the sort of thing that Fahrenheit 451 talks about (I never read it).

I actually read F451 as a kid. Really good book personally, lots of stuff Bradbury obviously wanted to vent about. It is way more anti-Capitalist than 1984, but still isn't perfect.

I never read the book before, only read summaries and some anecdotes of Bradbury being pissed off about people misunderstanding his work. No book is perfect, but I think the message "people won't read because they don't want to" is way more realistic than "people won't read because Big Brotha is watching them"

When I was fourteen I adored 1984 because it was very well-written, and all the ideas are new to me. Now I am grown and learned.

At the time I didn't finish the book because Winston had just gotten caught. Silly young me, thinking I'd missed out.
