"X is acting like Voldemort. Voldemort level evil. Literally 1984." What are you a child?

If someone brags about reading for status but only reads fiction, their knowledge is useless in practice. Fiction can be great, but treat it like junk food, enjoyable but not real world wisdom

It shows me that the person is quite ignorant on three things:

  • on the very material they are comparing against;
  • on the history to pull from other things to compare against;
  • on recognizing that we are talking about actual human beings, their problems and plighs, instead of some Hollywood movie film.

I do like the exploratory part of fiction, like "what if X was real" and stretch it as far as it goes. But no, sometimes, we can use parable as a way to understand a little better facets of things, but not it as a whole. That's where I think people miss the forest for their Voldemort shaped trees.

    There's been a real epidemic of adults thinking real life works like a Marvel movie. Like Epstein discourse went from an actual discussion about elites using their power to abuse kids into a secret society headed by a literal supervillain that we don't know about.
