[EN] Lula, the Worker's Party (PT in Portuguese) and 99% of the conciliatory left demonstrated, with this result, how their strategies and tactics are useless. We've always had a small left opposition that, over time, through a series of squabbles started by the conciliatory parties, was told "not give ammo to our opponents" or, worse, would rather ally themselves with the center-right than with "Stalinists" on the far left. I say this as someone who saw, many years ago, in person, Jones Manoel debating PSOL. How things have changed, no?

Originally, I wrote a huge text, but it doesn't matter. Even if there is a change in the ballots, we are just postponing the inevitable: fascism taking root by the fall in the rate of profit.

Wanna see how we do the Revolution? I'm at disposal and suggest making a post for it. My text is too long.

    As a user, I'm quite fond of them! The bus terminals are starting to smell a little bit less than burnt up diesel fuel, as well as the immediate sound pollution, when waiting, is a godsend.

    They make a funny noise when starting their roll (the sinusoidal controller for the motors do this, it can be programmed), as well as some models are a little awkward on their seat arrangement. Some models do have some EM shielding problems on the very back, so you can hear a little of the current when wearing headphones. Nothing that I think would be bad for someone with a cochlear implant or peace maker, but if it was the case, I'd recommend to err on side of caution and stay by the middle.

    Oh, and some drivers have this "stop and go" cadence to their driving when on a red light and gets a little annoying, as the relays are quite loud on some models (think the light switch it your room, but crispier).

    But still, way better than the old diesel models! Air conditioning has been common for a while, but it sure is better when there's no big engine in the back running extremely hot and fighting against the insulation. And USB chargers on almost every seat is nice too!

    I do disagree. The two examples in question, for me, are the exact reason.

    They served as honeypots and litmus test the problematic folks. The mod team did act in the end. The offender was banned.

    Comparing to Reddit (any any other social media, really), the mod team is doing great work. I commend them!

    There will be reactionary people in our midst. We weed (purge) them out and life goes on.

    I did read the AEON article and I found it's quite sober really nice.

    Thank you, comrade, for the reading material. I do believe that's really the best way to tackle this subject.

    I looked a little bit around and the only place I see the following information is on the "I put a fruit fly in Minecraft" video. But, apparently, one of the author's of the Nature paper about the full conectome of the fruitflies did consult the video's author and, when asked about the project, he said "yeah, it's a quite accurate model" when asked about the model neurons they are using for the project.

    And, from a bioinformatics standpoint, it's that, a model. It can mimic very well the behaviour of fruitflies, but we don't super duper know why or how. Specially when we just have the conectome (the wiring), not the "software" or chemical state of things at capture, and that's assuming one single individual fly, not all the possible states individual flies could have.

    So, yeah, it's a great model, but it's not real.

    I'm all in for finding more about the brain, so we can dispell the idea that LLMs are so human like and get on with our lives.

    People (the person you're replying to) will do literally anything before recognizing animals have unique sensory experiences and some degree of internal representation. Shit, literally anything besides recognizing a fellow human is a feeling creature, aware and cognizant. I will easily admit that animals are conscious (not just sentient) before any LLM.

    bUt tHiS iS vItAlIsM. Motherfuckers will ascribe intelligence to linear algebra before then to a bonobo or, God forbid, an animal they slaughter for meat.

    Fuck, you would even think that all the "stochastic" mumbo jumbo they spout in their book (click on their bio, it's a doozy) would warrant some distinction to humans and machines on the very specifics of the (who'd've thunk!) stochastics of neurons firing. Some people even have the "fringe" (unscientific) idea that the centrioles of the brain could contribute. And they are very much probably wrong! Even so, they have a better explanation than "chatGPT is my wife" levels of delusions the Dawkinian mind can conjure. Before writing, they should've done some reading.

    Yes! Even the design is "biologically inspired". Spiking neural nets are a little bit better, but that fruit fly people have been doing stuff with uses a better model still. LLMs are more like a Magic 8-ball that instead of shaking you insert a fortune from a cookie.

    It shows me that the person is quite ignorant on three things:

    • on the very material they are comparing against;
    • on the history to pull from other things to compare against;
    • on recognizing that we are talking about actual human beings, their problems and plighs, instead of some Hollywood movie film.

    I do like the exploratory part of fiction, like "what if X was real" and stretch it as far as it goes. But no, sometimes, we can use parable as a way to understand a little better facets of things, but not it as a whole. That's where I think people miss the forest for their Voldemort shaped trees.

    I will incorporate in Delaware, making a business that employs solely me and with the power of AI (an idiot, such as myself) consumes vast quantities of dubiously acquired data and media, using some undisclosed amount of water and, if time allows, fleeces Fortune 500s for big bucks and the promise of some 10x return

    The weapon of criticism cannot, of course, replace criticism of the weapon, material force must be overthrown by material force; but theory also becomes a material force as soon as it has gripped the masses.

    As a Brazilian that plays videogame on some LATAM servers, I can say that I can only be so courteous after being called a monkey constantly by my Argentinian teammates.

    Some friends reminded me of when Luis Suárez and Messi called Neymar "Conguitos" when playing for Barcelona. So, even at the high level, some of this shit happens.

    I like the little VPSs that are available at LowEndBox. Some can be dirt cheap, at about $1/month (paid upfront). They are small, but it's way more than enough for serving a static website. It could also serve RSS, some images, stuff like that, no problem.

  • What about 'The Drey Dossier'? (thedreydossier.substack.com)

    Being more specific about the title, she gets traction every once in a while, usually on video platforms. Sure, she is a journalist in the most liberal sense of the word. Which means that does, from time to time, a little xenophobia and a few "the Democrats are literally left". But, she does some very thorough investigation on her part, and even if some conclusions she has are bad, the information gathered is quite interesting.

    • Have you ever read/watched some of her content? If so, what do you think of what she does?
    • I believe that if her method was a more dialectical materialist, some of her conclusions would be better and she wouldn't have to do some mental gymnastics that she usually does. Am I just being delusional? Are all her writings just conspiracy and I don't get it?
    • I do see quite some parallels to Lenin's "Imperialism, the Highest State of Capitalism" and how she conducts her research. Am I just seeing things?
