Sure, ive manually replaced the BIOS with Libreboot and switched to blobless (software) WiFi chips, but then what about the EC blobs? The keyboard and mouse? If being fully FOSS predicates ownership, I don’t think any of us own our devices permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 3 child comments replies: [–] BladeFederation@piefed.social 3 points 2 weeks ago (2 children) How does LibreBoot work? Was it hard to set up? permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] rounding_error@lemmy.today 8 points 2 weeks ago* It’s a coreboot distribution (FOSS BIOS/UEFI), so technically it works on more things than advertised. To install it it does require a little bit of preparation. There’s a lot of commands you have to run using a custom compiler toolchain to build an image for your board. The hardest part is disassembling the laptop, if you have an older one, which is mostly what Libreboot targets. permalink fedilink source parent [–] db2@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago It doesn't work in most things fyi permalink fedilink source parent
