I think they mean that drivers ignore crosswalks. I also first assumed they meant pedestrians ignore crosswalks, but in the context that doesn't make any sense.

And yeah, I agree. Car accidents with fatal outcome are expected in areas with high speeds, but those areas shouldn't be where pedestrians usually walk. This makes 25% of road fatalities being pedestrians seem quite insane.

    you're right. i should have read more carefully or i should have just stopped reading to go to sleep.

    Some drivers not only ignore, but accelerate to pass before the cyclist or the pedestrian "claims" the crosswalk 🤷
