Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.

Rules
  1. ๐Ÿ˜‡ Be Nice!

    • Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly.
  2. ๐Ÿ˜๏ธ Community Standards

    • Comics should be a full story, from start to finish, in one post.
    • Posts should be safe and enjoyable by the majority of community members, both here on lemmy.world and other instances.
    • Any comic that would qualify as raunchy, lewd, or otherwise draw unwanted attention by nosy coworkers, spouses, or family members should be tagged as NSFW.
    • Moderators have final say on what and what does not qualify as appropriate. Use common sense, and if need be, err on the side of caution.
  3. ๐Ÿงฌ Keep it Real

    • Comics should be made and posted by real human beans, not by automated means like bots or AI. This is not the community for that sort of thing.
  4. ๐Ÿ“ฝ๏ธ Credit Where Credit is Due

    • Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting.
    • Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
  5. ๐Ÿ“‹ Post Formatting

    • Post an image, gallery, or link to a specific comic hosted on another site; e.g., the author's website.
    • Meta posts about the community should be tagged with [Meta] either at the beginning or the end of the post title.
    • When linking to a comic hosted on another site, ensure the link is to the comic itself and not just to the website; e.g.,
      โœ… Correct: https://xkcd.com/386/
      โŒ Incorrect: https://xkcd.com/
  6. ๐Ÿ“ฌ Post Frequency/SPAM

    • Each user (regardless of instance) may post up to five (5 ๐Ÿ–) comics a day. This can be any combination of personal comics you have written yourself, or other author's comics. Any comics exceeding five (5 ๐Ÿ–) will be removed.
  7. ๐Ÿดโ€โ˜ ๏ธ Internationalization (i18n)

    • Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
      Sรญ, por favor [Spanish/Espaรฑol]
  8. ๐Ÿฟ Moderation

    • We are human, just like most everybody else on Lemmy. If you feel a moderation decision was made in error, you are welcome to reach out to anybody on the moderation team for clarification. Keep in mind that moderation decisions may be final.
    • When reporting posts and/or comments, quote which rule is being broken, and why you feel it broke the rules.
Web Accessibility

Note: This is not a rule, but a helpful suggestion.

When posting images, you should strive to add alt-text for screen readers to use to describe the image you're posting:

Another helpful thing to do is to provide a transcription of the text in your images, as well as brief descriptions of what's going on. (example)

I would never trade the freedom I have now to be back in school as a kid who is beholden to the wills of adults around me.

[โ€“] jade52@lemmy.ca 52 points 4 weeks ago

Exactly. As much as I'm bored and unhappy at work, it pales in comparison to the prison that school was for me. And living at home with parents. Miserable.

[โ€“] four@lemmy.zip 26 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Yeah. Now I dont have homework AND I get to spend money on stuff I want

[โ€“] Deceptichum@quokk.au 12 points 4 weeks ago

I had way more freedom as a child because I had less responsibilities.

I work longer hours than I spent at school. I donโ€™t get to goof around and have fun with friends during that time. I come home exhausted and have to do more work to maintain my existence. And I have to constantly worry about money. I donโ€™t get to stay up to 2am playing StarCraft or Diablo every night, and if I even think about it my body will hate me.

Shit was easy and fun. The only benefit of adulthood is I allegedly have more money for stuff, but I canโ€™t buy it because I need to be responsible.

[โ€“] Mac@mander.xyz 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I would, but not because school was betterโ€”i was picked on regularlyโ€”but because i want to make better choices.

[โ€“] Bongles@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 weeks ago

You and me both.

At least I am paid to sit at the computer. Hated being a kid, no freedom. Adult, responsibility, sure, but paid to work, go where I want, choose how to spend my time and honestly plenty of choice in HOW I get my paid work done.

[โ€“] fluffykittycat@slrpnk.net 7 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Boring meeting are awesome if you're paid hourly. You don't even have to actually do anything to earn the money

[โ€“] yermaw@sh.itjust.works 8 points 4 weeks ago

You have to time it juuuust right. You want to ask just the right questions at just the right time to bring the meeting so close to lunch time that by the time you get back to your station and set up your equipment its immediately time to pack it away for lunch time.

I was actually having fun until we were all forced to use AI or fall behind. Now itโ€™s boring as fuck and Iโ€™m not even allowed to work part-time? Typical capitalist scam.

That said, I like being an adult with adult money. I wouldnโ€™t go back.

School: computers, social studies, math, gym, etc

Work: just computers ๐Ÿ˜Ž

[โ€“] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 11 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago) (2 children)

School:

computers,

~~social studies~~ banned because woke,

~~math~~ gutted because too difficult,

~~gym~~ all funds moved to football program,

~~etc~~ eliminated to focus on standardized testing

I love Texas education! Please, officer, don't shoot! I'm saying the pledge again, for real this time, I promise!

Itโ€™s just computers all the way down.

[โ€“] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 19 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

School is so boring!

Physics Colloquia: Particle Accelerators: Pushing the Frontiers of Physics

College was probably the most exciting period of my life. If I didn't have to pay to be there, I'd have never left.

[โ€“] Slovene85@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 weeks ago

Like Van Wilder.

[โ€“] Jankatarch@lemmy.world 18 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago)

Tbf school was way more than just "boring." Remember waking up at 6 am and immediately running few miles in gym?

Went perfectly nice with the following 8 hours where you learned how to do absolutely foreign concepts and rotated the subjecs every hour or so.

Also having to ask for bathroom permission was an experince. We had "tickets" that can be used 5 times per year like some fucking videogame consumable.

[โ€“] MisterNeon@lemmy.world 18 points 4 weeks ago (3 children)

I would fucking kill for a boring office job again.

[โ€“] DagwoodIII@piefed.social 14 points 4 weeks ago (2 children)

Two suggestions.

First, check your local/state/federal civil service job sites. You will probably have to wait to get hired, but it's worth the wait. Strong unions, clear work rules, and steady employment.

Second, get this book. They probably have it at your local library. "Discover What You Are Best At" Linda Gail. I found it years ago while I was on workers' comp. It lead me to a career I'd never considered.

Good luck.

[โ€“] MisterNeon@lemmy.world 15 points 4 weeks ago

I lost my government job after Trump got elected.

[โ€“] Gork@sopuli.xyz 8 points 4 weeks ago (2 children)

One good thing about government jobs is that they are free from the constant pressure of Line Go Up and creating Shareholder Value^ยฎ^ that are ubiquitous in companies nowadays.

Downside though is that it's heavily dependent on funding availability or lawmaker fuckery.

ICE just got an extra infinity billion dollars.

[โ€“] 13igTyme@piefed.social 2 points 4 weeks ago

Depends on the administration. Some look at these services and think "it's not profitable" and want to shut it down or privatized it.

[โ€“] lolola@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Come fucking kill me then. Take my boring office job.

[โ€“] MisterNeon@lemmy.world 2 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

We'll collaborate to fake your death since you're being generous and thus you've endeared yourself to me. Is there any chance I could just pretend to be you?

[โ€“] MisterNeon@lemmy.world 2 points 4 weeks ago

Ok then. How do you feel being sacrificed to Tezcatlipoca?

[โ€“] hesh@quokk.au 5 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

What kind of job (or lack of) do you have that makes you wish for this hell?

[โ€“] MisterNeon@lemmy.world 16 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

I lost my frontend web developer and designer job being a government contractor after Trump got elected in May 2025. I was making 6 figures. Now the only work I can find is fulfilling online orders for a grocery store. I've been trying to get into project management. I have a PMP, PMI-ACP, and PSM I. I'm 40 and worried about becoming homeless if I can't pay my mortgage.

[โ€“] hesh@quokk.au 7 points 4 weeks ago

God speed, friend

[โ€“] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 16 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Kids should work first, so they appreciate school more.

[โ€“] fluffykittycat@slrpnk.net 11 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

School sucked, I wouldn't go back

[โ€“] RBWells@lemmy.world 6 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago) (1 children)

Yeah, same. Every day, no matter what happens, I wake up happy not to have to go to school. For decades now, the knowledge I don't have to go to school has brought me joy daily. It was the worst "job" of my life so far, by far. College not as bad (I did work and have kids between, went as an adult) but work has still been better, and certainly pays better.

[โ€“] Joelk111@lemmy.world 2 points 4 weeks ago

Yeah high school was OK near the end for me, but college is really where it's at. I try to not be nostalgic for it or whatever, but having a schedule, easy socialization, and getting to learn new stuff ever day was so nice.

Life at least was not miserable during school days. Those who say "freedom". Where do you see freedom when you work all day? Literally you are doing the same thing that you did at school, even longer hours now that you are working lol

[โ€“] grandma@sh.itjust.works 7 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Nah, in school I always thought working would be so much better, but I also felt I would likely change my mind by the time I got there.

I have not changed my mind one bit.

[โ€“] Honytawk@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

Yeah, I can't stand people who peaked during high school.

Work is a million times better. Because you get to do what you love and people actually respect your opinion. And if they don't you can say "fuck you" and just move to a different job.

The best part? I get home and I don't have to think about work anymore. Unlike with homework.

[โ€“] BuboScandiacus@mander.xyz 6 points 3 weeks ago

you get to do what you love

I get home and I don't have to think about work anymore

You have a good job, live in a country where this is possible etcโ€ฆ

For many people on Earth this isnโ€™t possible

[โ€“] Slovene85@sh.itjust.works 7 points 3 weeks ago

I freakin' LOVED school. I just hated the getting up early part.

[โ€“] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 5 points 4 weeks ago

Honestly I prefer it. I genuinely enjoy aspects of my career. Also I go home to a loving wife instead of my parents who while mom loved me very much both needed so much therapy.

[โ€“] WorldsDumbestMan@lemmy.today 5 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I used to sleep on the desk, could not help it. Even when I had sleept the previous night.

I also fell asleep on my feet in the store when I was being trained.

I can't tell if you're talking about school or job

Primary school, middle school, sure, good times.

High school and college... I'll take one job any day over a "job" per subject. Except the long breaks, my adult life really needs those. I get so jealous when work with a European colleague has to go on pause as they take a gigantic time off.

[โ€“] DupaCycki@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

It's not that school isn't bad (in most countries at least). It's that working is just even worse. School is only nice in comparison. Just like getting beat up is nice when compared to getting murdered.

[โ€“] moakley@lemmy.world 3 points 4 weeks ago

Happiness really does come from within.

[โ€“] atopi@piefed.blahaj.zone 3 points 3 weeks ago

in college, teachers complained that a proposed law that would enforce students having at most 2 hours worth of homework a day would mean they would have to give significantly less homework (saying its barely anything)

in my class, i do not know of a single person that sleeps the recommended number of hours

i wouldnt consider school boring
