Donald Trump said Sunday that if no peace deal is reached with Iran in the next 48 hours, "we're blowing up the entire country."

The president made the threat Sunday to ABC News' senior political correspondent Rachel Scott in response to a question regarding whether his previously stated timeline of two to three weeks for a deal was still accurate.

Concerns have been raised about targeting civilian infrastructure in Iran and the consequences that could bring.

When a person has the means to commit genocide, is inclined to commit genocide, and has promised to commit genocide, does that create a moral imperative to kill that person? Asking for a friend.

[–] BradleyUffner@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

And just a few minutes ago he said openly and directly that he was going to destroy their entire culture.

[–] neuromorph@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

i think stopping a genocide is an ANTI-war crime.

[–] Furbag@lemmy.world 38 points 3 days ago (3 children)

To think that in the interest of electoral fairness, we let this guy be president again instead of putting him in a prison for life where he absolutely belongs.

To any democratic strategists out there who might be reading my post, if you want my attention, start getting your candidate to talk loudly and often about how they will punish Trump and every single member of his administration on Day 1. Lifetime prison sentences for Epstein related coverups. Hangings for treason, war crimes and crimes against humanity. Lengthy prison sentences for fraudsters who are insider trading and former DOGE staffers. Restitution to be paid back to the American taxpayers for the theft and embezzlement of tax dollars. Anything less that that is a mockery of justice.

100%. All these people saying we can't win on MAGA Punishment can go to prison, too. I have my pet issues too like Universal Health Care and Campaign Finance Reform, but I recognize that we're NEVER get this country back on track and reach a point where we can address those issues in good faith, until we deal with MAGA as the genuine National Security Threat that they truly are.

My candidate is the one that says, "The moment I'm sworn in, I will issue arrest warrants for every MAGA leader, and send them to Guantanamo Bay for extensive interrogation." We will audit every account they controlled, personal, business, and governmental, and charge them for every single count they violated, and confiscate their entire fortunes and assets.

That's the candidate that I will support. Any that blurt shit like "We need to come together," is automatically disqualified in my eyes.

The Toddler-in-chief threatening to throw an apocalyptic tantrum over something that he fucked up in the first place.

He not only needs to be removed from office - he needs to be on a psych hold. He's deranged and dangerous.

No longer does the country collectively agree to push forward on war. Now it's just one guy who triggers very easily. WTF!?

[–] Bieren@lemmy.today 10 points 3 days ago

Could you imagine if a female was president. Just running everything on feelings and emotions.

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 17 points 3 days ago (7 children)

It's not just 1 guy, it's most of the current administration. And 84% of the people that voted for Trump, still stand by their vote!!

Imo he has been looking for any excuse to launch a nuclear bomb since he first became president. I don't even think he cares why, how, or who he ends up using it on, even if it's his own people. As long as he gets to use his ultimate power as president and press that big button. And as long as he isn't personally affected he won't even give it a second thought.

I firmly believe he WILL nuke someone before his term is up if nobody stops him. I firmly believe people have already stopped him before.

[–] Sektor@lemmy.world 29 points 4 days ago (4 children)

He is the only person stupid enough to do it. I feel they'll carpet bomb Teheran or something like that first, but since the army of Iran is decentralized it won't do much. It would be a great excuse for the martial law in US if he drops a nuke. His insanity and the death cult around him makes him so fucking dangerous. Hegseth did a purge in the army, if they have only yes men left they will have no pushback from them.

there is no big button that trump presses, that is the myth. the suitcase being carried with him, for some strange reason called nuclear football, is basically just a sat-phone that connects him to some joint chiefs operations center. from there, there is a long chain of command leading to some soldiers in silo somewhere, who actually have the button. anyone in that chain of command can still say no and break the chain.

This guy has never had any clue what he’s doing, only what he wants and how to get it. Now, he’s finally hit something completely out of his grasp and just like any narcissist, he’s not handling it well.

He will continue to chew through the entire world consuming people, economies, countries, and society until he’s stopped. This is the danger of dictators.

No nukes! Somebody please stop that idiot from using nukes!!

[–] Mrkawfee@lemmy.world 10 points 3 days ago (6 children)

Everyone and his dog will be getting a nuclear weapon if that happens. The future of humanity will be very bleak indeed.

so let me get this straight. Just so I'm clear, it's unfair when Iran blockades. But when dumpy does it to cuba, that's perfectly fine?

I live in a country where this one guy, all by himself, is allowed to just decide to murder thousands and thousands of people just because he wants to, over and over again. And, there’s no consequences, no check, no pushback, nothing that the other 300 million of us can do about it. Why do we tolerate this? Why is this just accepted as normal, even by the majority of people who disagree with him? I just cannot get over what a shit country the US is. Our government, our politics, our media, our culture, the people who live here are just endlessly awful. Will some nation, please just fucking do something about us?

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 22 points 4 days ago (2 children)

The problem is, this very very tiny portion of like minded evil people have installed themselves via politics or capitalism into untouchable roles which drive the country in any way they wish, regardless of what the majority wants. And even physical violence isn’t really a protest option as the police and military are some of the organizations they control. So the US is basically the same as China or Russia now.

“we’re blowing up the entire country.”

What country is that? USA?
For those not aware, Trump is actively destroying USA not Iran.
For every escalation USA is just making it worse for themselves.

[–] leriotdelac@lemmy.zip 32 points 4 days ago (1 children)

There's no salvation for this man. I hope someone stops him, and my thoughts are with civilians of the region.

[–] Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca 12 points 3 days ago

Blud, my thoughts are with all of us that didn't sign up to be part of this fucking insanity.

[–] Gammelfisch@lemmy.world 11 points 3 days ago (5 children)

MAGA is dragging the USA down to the low level of Vlad's Fucked Up Russia.

[–] M0oP0o@mander.xyz 6 points 3 days ago (2 children)

I think they have done it. For me it was the loss of a us awacs plane last month, a thing that we made fun of russia for not a few years ago. The us of a is not in a good place militarily right now, with big issues with both equipment and moral that is very much underplayed.
