To be clear it's not the cost to mine one Bitcoin which could be done on a hundred PCs. It's hundreds of thousands of miners running concurrently in competition. The cost to mine vs buy has always been a factor.
$19,000 loss from 500,000 miners is like $0.04 per miner every ten minutes.
